I recently rolled my Isuzu Rodeo, and I am looking for a different car, and I like the cherokees. The only problem is, 80-90% of the 4.0 (which I want, I have a jet ski to tow around) have 150,000 + miles on them. I dont want something that will crap out in 20,000 miles, should I look for one that has more towards 100,000? Whats the basic (overall) build quality and reliablity of the 4.0?

Thanks

The 4.0L is a good engine. Keep in mind that a lot of Jeeps are tken care of, or least that is my findings around here. I would look for one with about 100,000 or less.

I really like my cherokee 4.0. It has all of the power and torque that you need. The blocks are relaible the only problem is that older 4.0's have engine knocks.. including mine. I run 20w50 in it and try to not abuse it. You could always buy a cherokee with high milage for cheap and just get a new engine for it. Then you pretty much have a new car. But if you are not looking to do a lot of work like that just keep your eyes peeled.

My 95 wrangler 4.0 only lasted 87000 miles before it crapped out and ill never buy another Chrysler again because of the lack of customer service. I blew up a rear end also.
