OK well theres a 91 mr2 (first one ive seen in the ads) for 3000 ($2,995)

it has 146k miles on it, non-turbo base model, 5 spd, yellow, the guy said theres no big problems, lil bit o rust, but ya what can u expect from an old car

we are gonna check it on monday (its 2 hours away)

anyways accordning to kbb the car is worth like 1900, but im thinkin, there pretty rare so 2500 would be decent wouldnt it?

even so for 3k i still want it, its an mr2 u know, and it has the ttop im pretty sure according to the pic

should i get it? i plan to do an engine swap, my coworker said he got a mr2 engine for $250 which he put in his ford festiva :)

which engine is the good engine? lol and where are the turbos for it? i cant really find too many

btw quick question, when installing turbos, do you have to take the engine out?

If you want a turbo MR2, but a turbo MR2.

Buying an NA to turbo it is a bad idea.
Buying an NA to swap the turbo engine is not worth it in my opinion.

It's a lot easier to just find a clean turbo MR2.

a "not turbo" mk2 is N/A or naturally asperated.

so the base model is N/A?

edit: ok ya so its n/a but still, ill just get an engine swap, if my coworker and i were talking abot the same engine, he can get it a bit cheaper , sure it would be cheaper to get a turbo mr2, but ya theres not too many mr2s for sale near me so ya

anyways ya, i got me a yellow 91 mr2 now :)

146k, not tooooo bad, N/A o well, ill get an engine swap eventually (ya i know it would be cheaper to get a turbo one to start, but ya whats the point if no one in missouri ever sells mr2s?) and it runs really good, just smells like smoke, has a bunch of cigarette buds in it, driver side window doesnt move (you can hear the motor move, but the window just sits there, and u can push or pull the window up by pulling on the glass, just not all the way up, anyone know whats up? is it just not on the motor correctly, or the motor is fucked?)

and ya theres a small piece on the right side tail light (its like a side piece) thats missing, and theres some rust holes, but ya its 15 yrs old wadda ya expect?

and so ya, the guys wanted 3000 for it, i was thinking 2500-2800 would be good enough, we got it to 2400 :)

also one of the mufflers dont work, well only one of them you can see smoke come out, so the other is clogged or messed up

question, do i need to buy a giant muffler like the stock mr2 or can i just buy seperate ones? like 2 rice burner fart cans or somethin (for example)

NA = naturally aspirated.
That is the 5SFE engine that comes in the "base model" without the turbo engine (3SGTE).

The stock exhaust only has one muffler.

As for what you need, you just need pipes and muffler.
On my non-turbo, I had a custom exhaust done with 2 small mufflers and two tips. It's nice and quite (i.e. not ricey sounding).

If you decide later you want the turbo engine, you are going to need a lot more than the engine. You will also need:
*intercooler set up
*transmission
*axles
*ECU
*complete wiring harness
*gauge cluster

There might be more ... not sure offhand.

Anyway, congrats on the MR2. Welcome to the club.
You might want to check out www.mr2oc.com if you haven't already.

You can add a turbo to a 5SFE, but it's not a great idea.
That is an economy engine not designed for power and big flow.

Generally speaking, turbo 5SFE = rebuilt engine :(
