Just got a Camaro

Was lookin through the forums on camaros and figured I'd join one and see how it goes. Just wanted to say hey and say what i had and future plans for it.
Finally owned up and bought me a camaro and lovin' it. Just a 3.8L although i'd much rather have the lt1 motor it will due for now, considering insurance is still kickin my ass for just the v6. Had the stock exhaust on it when i got it and was told that a big difference would come from aftermarket exhaust so i bought a flowmaster exhaust and chrome tips for looks. Not sure of the horsepower change but it definately opened her up. Gave 2500 for the car at 160k miles, but runs and drives like it was new, except for one of the sensors that controls the fans is bad, but still no idiot lights. Was wonderin though, if it was possible to cut off the catalytic converter on this car, without removing the o2 sensors? Thought about buying a chip or programmer for the car but not sure if it would be worth the money than to just have the motor redone and puttin a blower on it. Any suggestions would be nice.

Congrats on the new car. The LT1 years are my fave, so you're good in my book.
EDIT: Oh and also welcome to the forums.

Welcome to the jungle, and you gain nothing by cutting the cat off so just leave it alone, or atleast put a "high flow" on, other wise ***its a no no*** :nono:

Well, i reckon i'll fit in just fine then :evillol: . Wish i could get some pictures of it on here, its blue with t-tops. Replaced the headlights with the blue xenolights. I don't mind but i'm sure it pisses the oncoming traffic off. Have a list of things to do to it but not sure where to start. I want to put a new converter on it, and get rid of the kill switch, but can't find a programmer anywhere for the 3.8s. Was told if i wanted a programmer to make a difference then to put a bigger throttle body and fuel injectors on it but i'm not tryin to kill my gas mileage. Any other changes i could make without being to drastic on the motor?

What until 97, um, savage messiah gets in this thread. He'll help you out with the 3.8. Hey, i've been on here for almost a year, and i still can't get no damn pictures up. I will soon though.

camaro performers did a v6 build up and used a flowmaster cat back kit. they saw an increase of 11hp at the wheels. if u want a tunner, get a hypertech. doubles as a scan tool to check codes. i can post a list of all the mods they did if anyone wants it.

ya list em or send em to me. I looked on the hypertech website, the only thing i could find for the 3.8 was for 00-02 year models. maybe i was looking at it wrong i dunno.

ya i guess it would but, the more horses under the hood the better. Whats the difference between the '96 and the '98? Cousin of mine has a '98 and its the same motor, but he smokes my ass on take off everytime. Only thing i can figure would be the rear end. But that was before the exhaust and other little things.

Yup, its most likely gears. you could always check the rpo codes to verify what he has and what you have.
