JGC Seems to be idling high but rpms low...

My Jeep always wants to go. If I take my foot off the brake in drive it will start going without me even pressing on the gas pedal. I can even climb a hill from stopped. The rpms are only at about 500 when I'm braked. I have to really make sure I don't let pressure off the brake when I'm at a traffic light because it will definitely pull forward and rear-end someone.

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Is there anyone out there with any ideas re: above? I REALLY could use a place to start.

Thanks in advance,

Jennifer

What are the RPMs when in neutral? Should be between 650 and 750 rpm.

If the rpm's are high, what will I need to do?

Could be a vacuum leak among other things too numerous to list.
I would suggest taking it to a mechanic.

I checked, the rpms are the same in neutral, park, or in drive with the brake on (around 500). I'm lost.

Your Jeep should move with it in gear. If its moving faster than about five mph, I would say your tach. is off or there is a problem with the torque converter.
