hey guys just signed up for the forum, got some really nice reviews so thought of joining up. anywayz, i have a 00 cavalier 2.2 bought it brand new with 22km on it. its been a really great car for the past 5yrs, its a daily driver put about 50-80km a day. right now i have only 120000km, i was driving one day an noticed the temperature was moving up. 90Deg is normal but not 125. took it in the shop, changed the thermostat checked all the pipes the coolant was fine. the shop did a compression test and it failed it. so it was the head gasket. suprised it went so early, even the shop was suprised and it was the first they ever dealt with that had less kms. overall the cost to repair it was $700 includes 4 day rental. GM quoted me $1500 with no rental. so im just wondering if this happened to anyone, because i was just going to start putting some stuff in it.

hope this gets to you in time. . .
GM had a silent recall on the headgasket issues with the 2.2L 2200 and OHV engines. Pretty much they fix it for free once. I had this done on my 95 2.2L sedan. You need to sit down and talk with a manager or someone in an authority position. THe guy at the front desk doesnt know about it.

Cavalier 2.2 engines are well known for the head gaskets. I have done about 10 of them for the total of 500.00 If you have any mechanical abillity you can replace the head gasket. Mkae sure you pressure check and surface the head. Also make sure to buy new head bolts. The 2.2 are not very hard to put head gaskets on, I could help you if you have any questions.

of course you didnt get a recall for it, ITS A SILENT RECALL! They dont tell you about it, you have to go to them about it.

-Jayson- i thought that was only for the ln2 2.2's ( 95-97 ). Not the newer LN4 2.2's ( 98-02 )... I know thats one of the reasons for GM going to the 2200 was the bad head gaskets. So either or the kid wouldn't be helped. He has the LN4
