I have a 93 coupe that I just purchased.....the only way I can start the car is by pumping the gas pedal when im turning it over and after it starts I get a very heavy gas odor. Does anyone have any idea as to why this is happening? I thought to start out with new plugs and wires, maybe even a battery just to rule those things out??

I would check the fuel pressure regulator, to see if I am losing fuel pressure, or the fuel pump itself. Should not have to pump the accelerator on an injected car.

see thats what I thought too....but the thing absolutly wont turn over unless I pump the pedal

When you say "turn over" do you mean it won't crank at all or that it will crank but not fire up?

it will crank but not fire. I talk to a mechanic last night and he thinks its the feul pressure regulator because of the gas odor i get after it starts

That could very well be, based upon your description.
