So Im working out a few deals from a few different dealers on a 2006 Ford Fusion SEL I-4 with Leather, SEL Premium Package (Compass, Heated Mirrors, Auto Dim Mirror and Auto Headlights), and ABS.

Im trying to play my game very close here. Ive contacted 5 dealerships for quotes, looked up the invoice on it, then with options, estimated my payment, blah blah blah. im also working on what i should ask for my trade.

Heres what i ve got

RedFire w/ Tan Leather Interior
SEL Package, ABS

MSRP $22,345
Invoice $20,551
Dealer $20,290

No I am waiting for confirmation of whether or not this dealer quote is before or after the $1000 worth of rebates. If it is not before rebates awesome. but im guessing he's factoring in the rebates so id be paying $21290 for the car, which is still $1000 off sticker. Im going to try to go down at least another $500

now for my trade, its a 99 Olds Intrigue POS, ive checked the value on KBB, and its $1260 if i go to the site directly, but if i go from ford.com, i get $1765 for it. thats with the exact same answers. Im thinking on asking for $2000 for it. Private party is $3500, but i dont want to sell it private party. Is $2000 too much to ask. or should i just go for $1500.

any input?

Thanks guys

You'd be lucky to get 1000 for it. It's useless to them. They're just going to have to wholesale it, so they have no need for it. SELL IT YOURSELF.

its going to be too hard to sell private party. like you said its pretty much worthless.

im still considering it. i think ill get an appraisal this weekend on it. see what ill do

Is it an auto or manual? They especially dont like old manual cars at new car dealerships. And Oldsmobiles dont retain their value too well anyway.

they didn't make manual Olds Intrigues

Car price:

Sounds reasonable but not great... first year for a new model, but I haven't really been hearing rave things about them. I would think because of this you could get for a little bit above invoice. I couldn't find any dealer incentives on them yet, so you are working off true invoice as their starting point. MSRP is right on. Invoice seems to be a bit high, looks like they are counting in MSRP price on the options, not the invoice on it like they should. And does the MSRP and Invoice cost include destination? (My calcs it did). If not thats another $650.

Based on my calcs, I would offer $20,000 not counting rebate, but expecting the price to go to $20,800. I counted their actual invoice at $19,793. And remember, regarding the rebate, that money is not coming out of their pocket, so if they try to pull that on you it is bullshit.

Final price, I would say hold off unless you are under $20,000 (not counting taxes).

Regarding trade in, I would go in asking for $2200. The natural negotiating point would likely be $1500 for them, so you can reach an agreement of $2000. They will still make a bit of money on that, so don't feel bad about that.

Also, on trade in I would look into your state laws, in some states you final taxes are car - trade in, but most are just car. If you can do trade in to subtract from taxes, that will save you about $160 in my state (likely about 100 in other states) but still, $100 is $100.

well im going to try to get it drive out of 22500, i am going to use the $1000 rebate to use as a downpayment. im not going to get as much of a rebate as i thought i was goin to so i will have to try a different way to pay it off. i figure that TT&L will be at least $1500 in texas on that car. so id be paying 21k for the car ($450 above invoice)

do you think that if i trade it in, theyd give me a check instead of applying it to my downpayment? that way i can pay it off, especially if i get 2k for it.

I am taking the car to carmax tonight to see where i stand on theyre cash offer.

nevermind, they wont allow a cosigner on the lease, so i walked, that and the guy was being a complete jackass about the price of the car.

i decided to jus tgo with used, now im looking at an 03 maxima se fully loaded. its going for $12995, blue book is $16k. so its a pretty good deal.

is it possible to finance a car at $0 down with a FICO of 603? i know my rate is going to be high as hell, but im planning on paying it off early with some money i am expecting in the next year, so i can cut down the costs on that.

thanks for the help

BTW, carmax will give me $1700 for it. so im just going to take that and run. that way i can pay off the car im in and then some.

Use the carmax $ to put money down on the maxima (if that is what you go with). You are a little over 10% so you should be able to get a loan.

well i need to get $1000 to pay off the curretn car. i figure with my tax return and the money from carmax, ill get $3600, then ill have to pay $3000 to pay off the car. so that leaves me with 600, ill need $300 for the insurance policy, so i reallyt only have $300, which i will probably use to put down as a first months payment sor of thing.

im figuring ill be at about 13% interest, and with the car being drive out of $14k ish, ill be paying $320 a month. i just hope i can get a loan. i do have another payoff from a different car on my credit so that may help
