I have a 95 Civic Dx that is overheating. I was told that I need a new head gasket, but I really dont think I need it. This guy at the shop was like quoting me 1000.00 to fix everything. He said I need a thermostat, radiator and head gasket. Im going to start with the thermostat first then go from there. The thing is I dont have a manual and my cheap ass dosent want to pay for one. =) Does anyone have any ideas or guides that could help me out? Any help would be greatly appriceated. Thanks

first of all this guys is obviously lieing his A$$ off. secondly how do you expect to take care of your cra efficiantly without spending some money? Here's the cheap way out,go to the junk yard and scavange for some good parts. Thirdly when you can order a book (jdm made) on your car there's also a very good one made by helms that's step by step tells you how to do everthing. But that book is a bit costly(67.00). Once you buy a book a GOOD book in perticular it will be no problem doing fixing things.:D :D :D

Should I start off with replacing my thermostat first? What else could cause my car to overheat?

u might have rust build ups in your radiator, causing the coolant from flowing. go to a junkyard, as earlier mentioned, try to get the thermostat and radiator off of any 94-00 acura integra. the integra will have a larger capacity of coolant supply so you'll run into less overheating problems. for headgasket, get a new one, but try out the thermostat and radiator first.

for the radiator, you might have to find a way to mount it on your civic. other than that, it's just connecting pipes.

Definitely try installing a new thermostat first then go from there. The thermostat could be sticking or not opening at all.
