Power window binds

Hi - I have a 2002 Siverado ext cab. My driver side power window started making a grinding on glass kinda noise the other day. Well today it decided not to go all the way up. It would stop about 2/3 of the way up. It would go back down fine, but would stop again on the way up.

So, I took the door panel off and really couldn't see much. It appears to be binding somewhere. I sprayed the tract with silicone and nothing. If ya know anything about these windows (and I don't), the bottom window sits in these clamps that are attached to the tract. I loosened the clamps, just enough to lift the window up about an inch and tried the window again. Nothing. The window moves freely once it is out of the tract. So it's not the window that's binding, but somehow the tract thingy is (I'm assuming).

The motor seems to work fine. It moves or jumps (tries to move) whenever I hit the button. I check the power to it with a VOM and it is there every time I hit the button.

Now that I have played with it for a while I can hardly get it to go up three inches and is now harder to get it down. Wasn't the direction I intended to go. I put plastic over the hole and quit for the day. Does anyone have an idea as to what I can check? .........................Thanks

Click on the "search this forum" link top right of the screen in the main silverado list and search for the words "window regulator". From what i have read on those posts , that is the problem you are having.

Thanks Ken, removed the window regulator and found a frayed cable. Couldn't find one local so I ordered one. It was easy to remove, I hope it's easy to replace.....Thanks, Rich

I have a 2002 also and had the same problem with the drivers-side and replaced the entire regulator. The passenger-side is also starting to get a little sluggish and I'll probably end up replacing that as well.
