93 GC limited oil pan troubles

ok the oil pan was damaged mudding, got a new oil pan, gasket, and oil pan skid now. figured while I was in there I would replace the leaky rear main seal so, I took the starter, inspoection window thing off and got the oil pan off but how in the hell do you take it out? I can't get it below the axel, the jeep is all jacked up w/ the axel hanging. was told to take the shochs off at least the bottom, its too damn rusted can't get them loose rounded one bolt already, I can't get the damn passenger tire off either, I got the driver side off which was very reluctant, and 4 of 5 lugs from the passenger side off, I can not get one of the lugs off, tried with a 4way then an impact, and then a 1/2" socket and a 3foot breaker bar No luck, I litterally ripped the corners of the lug off it is more or less round now. I'm at the point of taking a drill to it. any ideas? is there any way to take to oil pan out without dropping the front axel??

Sorry for your troubles with rusted bolts and such.....

Best solution for that is a generous application of penetrating fluid and let it sit overnite for a start. If it is still being difficult, a little heat carefully place might help some too.

Sounds like this machine hasn't had much for regular service before you got it. Good time to start..............

To remove the oil pan.......

- Raise the vehicle support it securely on jackstands (on the frame rails) make sure the axle hangs as low as it possibly can.
- the book says to jack up the tranny and try to wiggle the pan out between the axle and the tranny, but I have never been able to get this to work, so this is what I do.
- unbolt the one end of the trackbar (the balljoint end would make removing the pan a lil easier but it is also most likely harder to get off, so you can remove the other end where it bolts to the axle.
- remove the Tie rod End from the Pitman Arm and let it drop down.
- unbolt the starter, flywheel cover and oil pan.
- Drop the oil pan down and forward as far as possible, now you should be able to see the bolts that mount the oil pump to the block, remove these to bolt and remove the oil pump.
- now you should be able to pull the oil pan out of the front of the jeep. A lil bit of wiggling may be necessary.

ok I'm not officially awake at this time but, the trac bar is the "arm" that extends from the axel nd back right? and the tie rod, which end?where it kinda crosses over the other bar right?

and would n e one have any objections to taking a drill to the lug that I cannot get off and rounded?

I use a 4 foot piece of chain link fence pipe to extend the leverage on my breaker bar on the tough ones.

The oem nuts are clad with chrome plated thin metal and easily strip off. But as they did that all I had to do was go down a socket size. I found someone on Ebay and replaced all 20 with solid chrome plated ones pronto.

Well for the Lug Nut I would get a set of bolt extractors, they work wonders.

OK the Track Bar is the bar that goes from the passengerside (top) if the axle to the driverside frame right under the driverside motor mount. The Tierod end that you want to remove it the one that is right in front of the track bar, it bolts right to the steering gear box (the Steering Stabilizer, looks like a shock on the steering linkage, is bolted to the tierod, unbolt the end that bolts to the pitman arm - driverside).

We are back in business... I got the pan off and the new gaskets in, but had to be to work so won't have a chance to finish it till saturday...
