Hi everyone,
I'm new to these forums and you all sound like you know a lot more about cars than I do. A yellow warning light showing some kind of symbol (it looks like a symbol of a pipe) is on in my Intrigue. It's located right beside the 'windshield washer fluid' symbol on the right. Does anyone know what this light is trying to tell me? Thanks!

the low oil light actually says "low oil" so i dont think thats it.
it could be a low fluid light, is there any way you can take a picture of it?
If youd like i can take a pic of my dash lights and you can point out which one it is to us.

Did you check to see if you turned off the a/c button?
Here is a discription:
Air Conditioning Compressor Button:
Press the a/c button to operate the air conitioning compressor. The indicator light on the button will glow when the button is pressed. You do not have to press the button to run the compressor in DEFOG or DEFROST.
And another:
DEFROST:
This setting directs most of the air through the defrost and side window vents. Some of the air goes to the floor ducts. The air conditioning compressor will run automatically in this setting unless the outside temperature is below 4.5 C (40 F).

I will turn A/C off, but when I turn fan up on high the A/C light will come back on. Even though the control is on defrost & the temp. is over to warm. So do you have any suggestions?

turn it on high and see if you can turn off the a/c button I think it turns on automatily (sp) but see if you can overide it by pushing the a/c button. I don't have my car right now it is in the shop getting some upgrades (inside and out). I'll try to go my friend's shop later this week and see if I can duplicate your problem.

Okay I am not sure but I think that your climate control is going bad. I don't have dual climate controls (I have a GX). If anbody else has had this problem PIGS1LADY & I would love to hear about it.
I have seen other threads about changing out the controls It's doesn't cost much if you buy it from a junkyard and it is fairly easy to replace. But before you do that see if it is the problem first. I hate to say it but you might have to take it to the dealer to check. But you don't have to have them work on it.

I have a 2000 GL with dual automatic climate control where the functions are controlled by the thermostat temperature and the outside temperature. I don't even have an A/C button.
I'm confused as to what the issue is, it's mainly because I don't know what climate control sytem pigs1lady has in her vehicle. Is it an automatic sytem where the functions are controlled by a outside temperature sensor and the inside temp. that you set or is it strictly a dual manual system where you have to select the function? Since it is a dual system, make sure the passenger setting is set to the same as the driver. That could confuse the system.
I'll get the manual out of my car at lunch and see what's in there. this way maybe we can get tot he bottom of this before you start spending money on unnecessary repairs.
It seems like pigs1lady may be confusing the system. If it you select defog mode, wouldn't the A/C light automatically come on.

No. The light should not come on. The a/c funtion is automatic. But I am not sure myself, like I said I own a GX. Maybe if pigs1lady writes down the vin number and call the dealer to find out exactly which type of climate controls (auto or manual) or if it's both then I could find a discription in the oem manuals I have.

Looking at my 2000 Intrigue manual, they have two systems: manual system and an automatic dual climate control. As lunasea808 mentioned, in either system, the A/C compressor turns on automatically for the DEFOG (air to the windshield and feet) and DEFROST (Windshield) as long as the outside temperature is above 40 F. It says "even when the compressor is running, you can control the temperature."
If you selected the defog or defrost mode, there is no way to turn off the compressor as long as it is above 40 F outside. But you can still heat the car by simply moving the temperature knob toward the red. If you don't want the compressor (A/C) on, then you have to select a different setting, Bi-level or Floor.
Based on what you said, It doesn't appear anything with the system. It just can't do what you want it to.

BINGO! there is no problem. a/c is there to remove the moisture from the car. change blower off defrost, and turn a/c off, and thats it. a/c always comes on with defrost unless the moisture level is very low in the car. just the magical self setting dual climate

thank you very much for all your help and time. I have ordered a owners manual for it because there wasn't one in it when I purchased it (used) the manual should be arriving any day in the mail. But I really do appreciate all that you have done. If I can ever help you let me know. PIGS1LADY@CHARTER.NET
