one big question thats been eating at me. i love the final year of firebird... i hated pontiac for killing it for the longest time, but does anyone think pontiac should follow chevy with its comaro and make a retro bird? i mean it would be cool, i think they coulda done more with the past body style. so they might try to reskin it like what it was. or do something. i just want the fire bird to rise again.

The Firebird namesake has been retired by GM.

Meaning there will never be another Firebird.

in never knew that, i noticed that Firebirds were an endangered species, i guess now i know why, people always tell us to save endangered species, where the hell's the Save The Firebird's fund when you need it :(

Well, if they retired the name, they just need to come out with the Phoenix, and since the car companies are going all retro and 1st gen on us, it should look like a 3rd gen! :naughty:

I'd hate for them to make a retro phoenix. That car was a joke.

If I remember correctly, it was a sister car to the Olds Omega. It was out in the early 80's.

I would love to see pontiac come back out with the firebird, but I think that chevy is putting the camaro out as a cousin to the GTO. So pontiac's muscle car is GTO and Chevy's is Camaro i'm thinking.

the new camaro is so ugly. i dislike all the new retro cars: camaro, gto, charger, mustang. the only one i give some credit to is the mustang due to the fact of the shelby gt500. other than that, the four doors is gut wrenching on the charger. the gto looks like the g6 and grand prix.

Well an inside guy (litterally:lol:) from UPS who delivers to GM's tech center said he saw something hinting at a Firebird concept!!!

"To credit this guy he also said he saw a camaro concept there this summer and viola... there it was at the auto show this year. http://www.grandamgt.com/forum/images/smilies/wink.GIF As for the firebird, there are no leaked photo's or anything. No official word from GM yet even of a concept. My guess would be they're waiting to see the reaction to the camaro concept before they reveal they're working on a firebird. All I know is he saw a car there that was covered up and on the wall behind it was a full scale concept drawing with "firebird" under it."

This is coming from a very experienced and very knowlegeable modder of the GAGT over at another website I frequent which is grandamgt.com.

God, I would love to see a new Firebird. All I want is a little retro from the 4th and best generation (although I'm partial to the 3rd because I owned an 86 TA TPI!). Heres hoping fore something to this nature in like 5 years!!

Never say never, but I highly doubt they will make a new Firebird anytime soon.

i do remember them saying that they retired the fire bird name... but i thought the camaro was under the same status. which is actually why i posted this thread. and even if they dont call it a fire bird, they could call it the trans am, or firehawk. and i think formulalt1 is right if they do... we will have to wait.

can they call it a trans am or any of thoes thing? because i don't know if they can because they are all forms of the fire bird, like you said tho, i hope they come out with somthing better, or do something about the gto.

if they did make a retro bird it'd be 1st gen inspired, i personally own a 2nd gen, and love it, but 1st would be the way they would go.

i think pontiac is looking for the solstice to replace the firebird name as it's sports line.

GOD do i hope not. that is a nice car but you cant send out a little 4 banger to replace one of the most influential cars that survived even the musclecar down fall. and lets think here ls1 v8 or 4 banger? im goin v8

Ya know I did some reading on the new concept camaro. From the way things have been going they aren't going to come out with a new bird. Were lucky that they are even doing a new camaro. With the trouble they have been having in sales with the f-body they'll give this maro a shot and if it doesn't work bye bye. But the bird won't happen like Mr.Lous said.
On another note I saw the first concept and the second. The one ya'll seen is the second concept they came up with. They didn't like the first because it was to retro in it's looks. Where as the one we see now looks meaner.

A pontiac pheonix was a sister to the chevy citation like chevette to a t1000. Certainly not the best looking thing but they ran ok. Such a shame firebird's all done, glad I got one. I wonder how the Fiero will fare on the collectors scene... the only 2 seater pontiac I believe. (one of the few or only w/ rear struts and front shocks) I liked the way those looked and owned one for a year.

Back in the 70's when the Phoenix came out they had a different body style. They were the same size as the olds omega. When they came out with the citation, the phoenix got a body change and became the sister car.

eh, never say never when it comes to big companies. They could figure out a way to use the name if they really wanted to. THere are so many loop holes in almost every situation. I still see a glimmer of hope in my last post on the previous page. I sure hope the Camaro does well. I mean it should. It looks bad a$$!!:thumbsup:
