I was having a laugh after reading something similar for "mechanics tools". so I came up with a few for modelers. Add some that you come up with! :grinyes:

model glue- used to create a white haze on clear parts. Also used to bind wheels and other movable parts together, as well as permanently staining fabric.

airbrush- used to overspray paint onto various items in your workspace. Atomizes paint so that the mist can settle on random objects of value.

air compressor- used to exercise eardrums. Perfect for getting rapid police assistance in apartment homes.

paint brush- used to give the appearance of hair or even fur on your models. Detail brushes can also be used to get tiny dots of paint on small parts that surround the piece you are currently trying to paint.

enamel paint- in bottle form this is used to paint your hands, clothes, and spill onto modeling directions and other supplies. In rattle can form they are used to create orange peel and shoot paint sideways.

primer- used to melt models, also to react and bubble up future layers of paint.

X-acto- used to cut deep crooked lines around areas you are currently trying to score. Used to create tendon viewing areas on your finger tips.

sand paper- used to create fine styrene dust, also known as vitamins for your lungs. Can also be used to remove small details around areas currently being sanded.

thinner- used to end up on finished surfaces and pieces that were painted and put to the side to dry.

toothpick- used to play "hide and go stab yourself in the foot"

ca glue- A magical substance for introducing others to the hobby by getting your spouse to carefully cut your fingers free from the desk after you have been shouting for help for 40 minutes.
pin vise-A surgical instrument for drawing blood samples from your fingertips. Helpful for determining coffee, midnite oil, sugar, model glue, and paint content in your system.

sorry, couldnt resist that one.

Cutters: Used for cuttin parts off of sprues, and sending them flying behind the work bench, or into the rug.
The Carpet: Works great for soaking up spilled, wet paint. Also works good as a parts magnet... although the pieces may never be found again.
Dremel: Used for cutting, or sanding parts. Normally sending them into oblivion, and grinding off the hard earned calis's on your fingers.

BMF-this super thin adhesive backed material is used for creating realistic chrome balls any cat would be proud to play with.

PE parts- delicate intricate aftermarket parts used for holding huge globs of ca glue in place while it cures.

rubbing compound- a paste that is used for removing blemishes in the paint such as orange peel, dust, fingerprints, ca glue, and/or cat hair and exposes the bare plastic in preparation for a soaking in brake fluid or oven cleaner so the part can be repainted all over.

TS-13 - Handy sized aerosol alternative to CSC. Can also be used to effectively remove paint from panel lines.

weredafukitgo! - Modeler's chant used to celebrate the ritualistic phenomeon of transplacement of the smallest parts detached from the sprue from the here and now into the never never land. (e.g my Dino 246GT gear lever)

Stash - 1. archaic banking term. More commonly known as overdraft; 2. The name for an assortment of boxes containing cheap pieces of plastic which have been purchased for exorbitant prices at web based auction houses for their rarity value as collectors items. It is a well known fact that at least 50% of these stashisms will be re-released by the manufacturer within 6 months of purchase.

Bottled paint - Comes in various volumes from 10ml to 30ml, usually used to hold paint. Mostly used to frustrate user by leaving paint in the threads of the cap therefore drying and sealing the bottle. Blisters on hands may be induced.

Airbrush propellant cans - Often mistaken as airbrush propellant, but if used correctly, by holding the can upside down, will freeze many small objects with ease.

Foot - The ultimate tool used for obliterating plastic parts that have found it's way to the floor.

Pet often referred to when looking for lost parts, these animals (often mammals) have a natural urge to find and ingurgitate them. Pet's are a modeler's best friend.

Fumes Modeler's real reason to be painting. Fumes give modeler's what they call "a buzz". May cause heavy dependency.

Hands Often mistaken for cutting mats. A modeler can be recognised by so called "modeler's hands"

Modeler's hands Beginning modeler's hands have most of their digits still hanging. Average modelers suffer from permanent marks of irreversable paint incidents. The solution is using a metal brush on these to get rid of any unwanted pigmentation. Also, modeler's hands can be diagnosed by deep cuts in the thumb-area, causing spontaneous bleeds.

Box Hogging Term originated from psychology. Can be mistaken for obsessive compulsive purchasing. Is in fact obsessive compulsive purchasing. Modelers from all grades tend to buy more then they can consume. Close related to Binge shopping.

Local Hobby Shop, or LHS Providers, dealers of the modeler. These dealers are often consulted to get rid of Obsessive compulsive purchasing (see box hogging), with the opposite result.

Panel lines recurring problems with molding process. Average builders get around those by spraying an amount of paint over these, thus covering these mistakes in the original kit.

Weathering Technique used to cover up flaws in past modeling steps.

Build plan or instructions Inside joke that keeps coming back in every manufacturer's boxes. These are used to mislead builders. Often neglected by above-average users and used as cutting mat or paint-mixing apparel.

Life (As in; get a life) = modeling

Online Forums: Used to procrastinate builds or develope delusions of grandeur, often developing into n00b bashing syndrome. Also useful for finding OOP kits you cant locate but will pay high dollar for. see E-bay

Tamiya Warfare: Tactic used by top model manufactures to force consumers to buy "detail sets" to achieve same quality they did from kits two years ago, only to turn more profit then before and spend less on tooling.

?????????

Nothing like being off work sick

Paint stand - Analogous to a paint run except in the other direction. This phenomenon is most commonly observed amongst newbie modelers from Australia, New Zealand and South Africa. Although specific to the southern hemisphere, a similar effect can be achieved by northern hemisphere modelers who prematurely invert their car bodies for drying in a vain attempt to avoid dust (see dust)

Dust - - This a generic term used to describe all particles, hairs, blobs, grit and bricks suspended in the atmosphere and which are highly charged with particularly negative vibes. It is a well known fact that dust particles are a low order life form, parasitic in nature whose preferred diet is a final wet coat.

Wet coat - A special application of paint applied to car bodies designed, indeed guaranteed, to attract all dust particles in the immediate vicinity and thus make the environment suitable for allergy sufferers.

Decals Colourful patterns printed on very thin clear film. Due to known breakage, non-conforming and bubble producing properties, caution must be used as will cause mental paranoia in operator.

Alcohol Ie rum, scotch etc. Has known calming properties for paranoia induced decal operators. Other uses as per operating manual supplied on container. In large quantities can cause lack of precision. Eventually a coma like state will occur. Has side effects such as pounding hammer behind eyes and frosty outlook from opposite sex.

Pain Tablets Can be used day after Alcohol. Repeated doses required.

Seatbelts(model) Optometrists best friend. Another head ache producing item. Modern day water torture.

Feather Duster Proven paranoia producing implement. Usually wielded by female of the species Homo Sapien.

Children Not neccesarily from loins of modeller. Natural selection has breed a need to collect plastic items from desk top for nesting purposes.

Aftermarket parts Items required to detail model. Normally cost 3 or 4 times original expenditure. See also Box Hogging

Addendum to Pet Cat. Has known fur properties. Does not understand "Get OFF you ##@**+%". Long hair an asset. Can influence paint drying and texture qualities.

Attaching glass parts - A Modeling phrase and/or expression more commonly known outside the modeling community as "Trying to fit a square peg into a round hole"

Glass part - A square peg

too many to quote for effect, they're all funny :grinyes:

tweezers and webcam killed me though!

Friends/Family (non-modelers)- (a.) provide explanations as to why you apparently are inadequate, childish, and generally a failure at life for modeling in adulthood. (b.) Provide explanations regarding how talented and artistic you are after eventually seeing your final works. (c.) Suppliers of snap-tite kits, metal body models, and other "beginner" modeling supplies you never would buy yourself, usually to make up for (a.)

Nice thread guys
White Glue - used to attach clear windshields etc - looses adhesive properties once body is mated to chassis.
Masking Tape - used to attach body to paint stand (usually aerosol can) again looses adhesive properties just as body inverted with resultant plunge into dustiest part of the floor.
Die-Cast Chassis - attempt by Mr Tamiya to inflate kit prices even further over & above p/e sets.
Automotive Paint - cheap way of returning to work on Monday with nail varnish (get ready to answer some searching questions into your private life).
White Primer - quickest way to bring out the natural beauty of red plastic.
Slammer - basically I can't be arsed how to figure out how to lower the suspension (guilty as charged)
Resin Kit - expensive way of perfecting your filling & sanding techiques (not true in all cases I know).

Inspiration
Malicious state of mind which almost certainly results in depression.
Occurs when viewing an unbuilt model, someone else's model, or something you wish to model after.
Results in brainstorms which define how you are going to approach modeling your chosen subject and get your hopes up. This results in building an overly complicated model.
Then you gather references, to ensure when you look back at the references, you'll see that what you built or are building sucks.
Usually you buy a donor kit, lots of extra's, and generally spend way too much money.
At this point six options are available:

Option 1- You start the kit, run into a problem, and ditch the project.
Option 2- You start the kit, run into a problem, sort-of-solve the problem, run into at least 13 new problems directly caused by the solving of the last project, and ditch the project.
Option 3- Various iterations of option 2.
Option 4- Whilst building the project you get another brainwave on a much more interesting project, ditch the last project and start a new one. This continues until your room is full to the point where you have to wear a facemask to prevent choking on small parts.
Option 5- You finish the kit, and realise you did a crappy job. You start wondering what you've really accomplished, not only with your model, but with your life, get dissappointed at the result, quit your job, start drinking until you're in the gutter hoping that when you die of famine they won't put a picture of that wretched model on your tombstone.
Option 6- You finish it, like it, can't see anything wrong with it, pat yourself on the back, show others on the internet (who love it as well), and feel happy. Then you get more inspiration, which leads to you suffering from options 1 to 5.
In fact, the number of modellers that experiences option 6 with every project they did, is 9 (worldwide).
The chance that you will experience this (9:6000000000) is about the same chance of you winning the lottery everyday for six weeks in a row without even participating.

I am most definitely a number 4 subject.
