Ok... im at my wits end and im about to explode. Im not a mod but im a mature adult with great respect for this board but ive got to call some new members out or im going kill some one. Cham2020, GamerXZ, Midnight Wangan, and the rest. THIS IS NOT A FUCKING CHATROOM. Look im sorry but you guys have been members for less then a year and you have more then half the post i have in 3 years. I think its great that your so active on this board but lets face it, your models suck ass and your constant post suck even worse. Your threads offer NOTHING to the modelling community and you cheapen this forum. In fact you guys dont even really build them, you just post countless pictures of unpainted bodies. Or ask stupid questions about "what color should i paint this?" and other stupid shit that just fills this forum with garbage. I have seen post by you guys that have gone on for pages and pages without a single picture of an update. Same old body with same old bad putty job from different angles and your all like " great progress" or what ever. Give it a fucking break and PM each other please. You guys can start your own forum or chatroom on many other free sites on-line so dont do it here. I thought you guys were the usual summer or christmas fare we get here every year but this seems to not be the case. Its imbarressing to us modellers who have a clue about modelling. If i see one more crappy model covered in red putty im going to kill myself. There is such great talent here and im sick of it being underminded by 14 year olds that cant even type a proper sentence in english. I dont mind bad grammar or spelling if you can at least finish a model with decent results but to try and interperate this banter just to see that your modding a friction toy car.... well its just a waste of time and has no place on this forum.
whew....... that felt good.
Thank you,

Hi Chad,
nice to see or hear that other AF members feel the same way like I do.
Every fact in your posting gathered in my mind over the last weeks, too.
There is nothing more to add.

I dont mind bad banter just to see its just a waste of time and has no place on this forum.
I get what you re saying, there's this new feature of rating threads, or just blocking threads is also easy these days.
But I agree with you and sportracer-san. Af has lost good modelers and talent because of silly behaviour like the aforementioned. Crap writing, making fake progress and just silly threads alike pollute this otherwise great forum.
Don't get me wrong, i don't think it's that bad, but hey, if there is a way to adress this, that's for the better.
Oh, and hey, let's not be blind about it, as time goes by, these kinds of threads also emerge once in a while, ranting on noobs and stuff. But remember, as time goes by there are also a lot of supergreat new modelers coming along for the ride.
Let's just all behave, have some cake and build models and learn to write.
In the wise words of Queen Elisabeth, who once spoke so eloquently to great extent ; " ta-tah, bitches!"

From my standpoint, i'm not sure if there was something I didn't see, but he last time I checked the community was open to anyone. The community here is very diverse, and most people share quite a passion for modeling, whether it is so called "professional builds" or whatever it might be. If a certain conversation or thread doesn't interest you, or perhaps it may annoy you, you aren't obligated to look at it, is that correct? To say people having a discussion in one of their own threads is 'undermining' the forums, than coming on to complain about how their work is, typing a nice rant that doesn't seem one hundred percent mature is a nice taste of irony, wouldn't you say?
Now I have respect for most people here, and I know as well as the next guy that this forum is for those who share a common interest, and that's modeling, and getting to know people who love modeling as well. If we left all the work to the so-called 'professionals,' sure, it would be fun to look at, but than again it would make the community a lot less diverse.
Have a nice day.

I have read a lot of :screwy: posts here. I myself have yet to post any of my work here as i don't have a digi cam yet. Seeking advise from others is a positive thing. If i hadn't asked questions i would still be building LOWER QUALITY models. I don't think saying some ones work is shit is positive. We ALL started off making LOWER QUALITY models. What needs to happen is people need more ''well have you tried doing.......it would improve your results.'' It would meen less :screwy: posts in the long run. When I was 13-14 I was making models which look rubish now. But back then they were masterpieces of building. 10 years later I'm not bad. My work to me is brilliant. But right now I don't have anywhere near the talent of some people here. The Ligier Aress is building for example. The engine is AWSOME compared to the one i've just built for my Jordan 191. It is just experiance. And it takes guts to post your work alongside the works of people like Hiroboy and Primera man to name but 2.
If I've pissed anyone off with this reply all I say is this is this: It is an opinion, my opinion.
Peace out! Make love not war!

This is one of those times where I dont know whether to lock this, or leave it open because it does clearly state the point that I know many people have. It is one of many reasons why some of my close friends have left AF, or do not participate.
Where as a moderator I'd be obliged to lock this kind of thread. So lets keep it a civil debate and not pick apart other members, but just figure out what we can do to make this a better place in general. If the other moderators feel this subject needs to be locked, then so beit. I'll support them with their actions.

I see your point and agree. Personally, i´m not able to judge on certain users but nevertheless, I agree that not every thought that comes to the users heads are worthy to be posted in threads.
Everybody should go and check, whether the comments he makes towards a project or question are valuable enoguh to enhance the thread he posts his comment in.
I also recognize that sometimes it is hard to say more than f.ex. "awesome work", when we see very good modeling on the board. But I was wondering myself in the last couple of weeks, whether all those comments saying f.ex. "awesome work" are really up to what they mean wordwise when you compare the projects they´re regarding to truely great modeling.
Anyways, thanks for bringing this subject up, it might help the forum to get better handling this issue.

Well if THAT'S how you feel, I WON'T be posting my latest project which is converting a 1994 Mustang into a 1995 Mustang. I have several pictures (all sized at 8 mps) of the body (it's a metal diecast) and a few with the mods (using red body putty that are also 8 mps). I WAS going to post them along with a poll regarding color ( I have several LARGE PS images to show the different color possibilities) and post another poll regarding which wheels I should use (I'm thinking of going with some 1:18th scale Jada rims or maybe some RC 1:10th...I have some pencil sketches I scanned at 4 mps resolution), but now I am SERIUOSLY rethinking about posting any of those images here.

Priceless. Make sure those pics you don't post on the thread you won't start are made w/o the use of macro; a camera phone or webcam is even better. People really don't want to see the model in focus, they want to see the stove eyes or computer monitor and beverage cans behind the model in perfect focus while keeping the model subject fuzzy :naughty:

I can't say I agree with you, Chad, only for a simple reason: this is one of the most freedom and self-disciplined place I know, so everyone here should have his chance to express himself and his tendency.
But I fully agree with you concerning the problem: there's a way we could have here (unfollowed just now) to make this place simply better: post our ideas without hypocrisy, often we have here "good" "fine" "great" comments on crap jobs, sometimes I don't post comments or just a positive comment only to not offend the thread starter: If we all here want to improove our skills we need engage our way to reply.
If someone post crap may be better for all gently reply "your job is just crap but could be better if..." yes is more difficult and tedious than reply to a masterpiece, but next time he (or me or you) could share something better.
I wont say that this place is full of crap as someone said before leave  , this's the better modelling place I daily visit, for the masters who post here, for the friendly attitude, also for it's freedom.
Hoping to be clear with my crappy english

As I am in a VERY loquacious and eloquent mood today, here come my :2cents:
Yes, there ARE some very immature posts/threads of dubious contribution to the overall scheme of things (I fear I have been guilty once or twice ;) ), none the less they all play a part and it is possible to ignore them.
Sharing work, regardless of subject matter or skill level, is the essence of a forum. Some may post their work to showcase it (in a positive sense) but the true value of posting your work if your are an experienced modeler is that you share your knowledge with less skilled builders and help them improve whereas if you are a beginner you should be hoping to receive some constructive criticism which will you to improve next time. I fully agree with the "less "awsome" and more "have you tried"..." sentiement expressed above - there are far too few members who feel confident(?) enough to do this.
A whole different issue IMO is the "netiquette" of posting. Everyone makes spelling mistakes, gramatical mistakes and even thows in the odd misnomer and malapropism once in a while. But I think there should be a minimum level effort required by AF of its members regarding the style and format of posts.
Sometimes it is nearly impossible for me to understand what the author of a post meant. It has nothing to do with foreign languages - in fact I would hazard a guess that some of the worst offenders are native speakers of English - and has everything to do with capital letters, punctuation and coherent sentences. If authors' models were constructed with the same care as some of their sentences, the paint would slide off before they had a chance to put their airbrush down!!
Here I think the moderators can play a VERY important and active roll (as on another well known forum). Bad posting should be acted upon, fair warning given and if repeatedly ignored more serious sanctions can be imposed.
That's my rant but I think it was fairly said ;)

Hi
like freakmech I think some guys should think over their kind of postings/critcs/rating.
Like sjelic suggests I tried in the the last weeks to skip over those in my eyes unnecessary postings and even gave hints, but as godfather23 mentioned:
“….I also recognize that sometimes it is hard to say more than f.ex. "awesome work", when we see very good modeling on the board. But I was wondering myself in the last couple of weeks, whether all those comments saying f.ex. "awesome work" are really up to what they mean word-wise when you compare the projects they´re regarding to truely great modeling….”
This is to me the MAINPOINT: When I look at fantastic models from f.e. Veyron, Aress, robex, Roca46 …. just to name a few ( and there are lots of guys like them in this forum) and there are comments like "awesome work" --- this is absolutely true.
If, however, modelers built a model in a few days, dull, nearly no details, etc and get an "awesome work", maybe even a 5-point-rating….
-----------Hey guys, same standard as the above mentioned modelers?
No, I don´t forget, not everybody (and yes, I include myself) can be or will ever be a top model builder. When I see guys starting building models that are not so well finished and they get REALISTIC critics and learn from these critics – that is what a forum is made for and we all should help them.
If those guys ignore these critics (that are of course not positive everytime), go on building their way and “earn” "awesome work" ---- here I agree with godfather23 again:
“this subject … might help the forum to get better handling this issue…”.
(@ bvia: with your (f.e. CF covered) models in my eyes you belong to those topmod-elers in this forum. No idea what´s making you thinking about not posting your Mustang ?!?!?!?! ;-)) )

hrm... 8mps... If memory serves me correct that res can get you a nice poster 24in X 24 in.. WITHOUT seeing any dots with the naked eye.
All in all... 1mps or LOWER will surfice for web/computer-viewing.
A tip in digi photography: computer use: 3mps or lower. (unless you have an 80in computer screen.) Anything more= waste of space.

Seriously, I can see all sides of this issue. I find myself :shakehead sometimes here, usually at the spate of noobs around a holiday or school letting out. But it really doesn't bother me if they don't scare off the good ones
Younger modelers need an outlet for their work, this is a good place for it. They get encouragement, and many times from each other. Maybe it seems pointless to others, but to them its important. The ones that make an attempt and behave themselves and communicate clearly get noticed by the more experienced builders. Everyone has to start somewhere. This may be the only place they have to show off their hobby to people that care.
Annoying posts? It's easy to block particular users. It's easy to ignore posts that don't interest you.
All-in-all, this place is a good cross-section of the hobby worldwide, from noobs to pros. There's room for everyone, as long as everyone makes a point to abide by the simple rules of the forum, and attempt to communicate clearly.

What's more, I can't believe your cussing and flaming of individuals is allowed on the boards and that the moderators have not deleted your useless post.

Where as a moderator I'd be obliged to lock this kind of thread. So lets keep it a civil debate and not pick apart other members, but just figure out what we can do to make this a better place in general. If the other moderators feel this subject needs to be locked, then so be it. I'll support them with their actions.
This thread to others is not useless. He addressed a situation that a lot of us feel for. To some modeling is just a 'hobby', to others its a lot more. You blamed him not being mature. Check out YOUR own last sentense: It's only a friggging hobby man. Get a life!
With this sentence you have offended a lot of ppl, me included. Your reply not only declined to maintain what you are claiming that should be allowed, you are also making yourself seem like a 14 year old trying to get revenge.
Meh my :2cents: .

What's more, I can't believe your cussing and flaming of individuals is allowed on the boards and that the moderators have not deleted your useless post.
I am going to report this to Phil!
We were all noobs and 14 once (that is unless you are 13 and under). Give the kids a break..sheesh!...It's only a friggging hobby man. Get a life!

I understand where freakmech is coming from, it's kind of annoying after awhile seeing people posting pictures of a brand new kit (still in the plastic bag!!) and consider it's wip (ok, opening the box is not wip).
The worst is asking for what color to go with and keep bumping up with thread with new replies of :feedback:
Having said that, pin pointing a certain individuals' work is not nice and not very effective in passing on the initial message/point of the thread. I am sure freakmech is well aware of that and did apologize.
Stick with the message that freakmech is trying to point out. I think it's great that someone say it out loud for everyone who had the same thoughts.

I did read it sir. I stand by what I said. If you get worked up over 14 year olds on the boards AND feel the need to rant in that manner (note I said RANT IN THAT MANNER), then I do not support it. Sure I get annoyed like all of you do over the same things, but if I find a thread annoying I won't bother with it. Life is too short. Hey, I love my kits and building models, but in the end, they are an extremely distant second compared to my family. So yeah, IT'S JUST A HOBBY!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Note I did not say useless. I said his delivery and then justification in the follow up message to be immature and pretentious. I am not going to say I don't swear around my friends, but to say what he said is immature. I do see that he made and effort to apologise, but it's kinda late as the naming damage had been done.
I left this page up while I went and did some chores. I came back to find my wife had jumped on the 'puter to check her eBay and email and had read this thread. Needless to say, I was embarrassed by the carry on.
It's comments like that ranting that makes these boards appear bad.
That's my 4 cents(in total) worth!

This is getting closer to being locked. I stated that as long as it was a collective, unheated, debate it could stay open. The beginning was off to a rocky start, but Chad did apologize for his outburst.
The thread is going off in the wrong direction. The direction this thread needs to go in is constructive criticism. Meaning, that as long as we are getting somewhere to make this a better community for everyone and not flaming or saying that the thread has no point or not contributing any suggestions the thread should stay open, otherwise it is not a debate or hearing.
I do say community in the way the word is intended. This is more than a forum, we are a community and are all friends. Communities need outlets for people to be heard from time to time. Now, that doesnt mean that everything said will be in effect, that just means people thoughts can be heard and thought about. This cannot be a usual occurence.
Like I've said, keep this thread constructive, and not pointing out all the wrong, and the thread will stay open. Start pointing out the flaws, and all the negatives or personal problems with other members, the thread will be closed.
End of story.

How does the "Rate this thread" work? Maybe we can all start to use the rating system more often. (but then I just found out, don't ask me how, you can actually make your own thread and rate it EXCELLENT! :D ) So the thread creator and other viewer knows the quality of the thread?

Like has been said before, everyone was a noob once; either to AF or to modeling. A lot of young kids have the benefit of being new to both at the same time, and having this place as a tremendous resource when they first start building. I sure wish I had AF when I was painting my cars to look like oranges and didn't know where to get wheels from or that you could even modify the things.
Yeah, there are a lot of posters with poor etiquette around here, posting silly threads and silly posts in serious threads and getting undue attention and kinda making a mess of the place. Sure, it may be making the AF modeling section not look like the gleaming jewel we all know it is (right?) but it's still better than anywhere else I've been. And I don't think this crop is scaring away other, good modelers, really. It can be very frustrating, and it can dampen your AF experience, yes, I understand and agree to an extent.
That said: whatever man. We can't all go around in our lives getting all upset about everything. I for one, refuse to get upset about modeling stuff because this is what I do to cool out from being upset about other stuff; work, family, 1:1 car, redhead coworkers. The truly deplorable threads are, to me, good for a laugh if nothing else. If I want to peep only really hot models, I'll just look at threads of folks I know to be good; but that's not really fair. There've been a few really great modelers to show up since this influx of not so really great modelers you complain about (bluemoose comes to mind) (and scale master hasn't been here all that long either, has he?)
There was only one builder, a long time ago, that really rubbed me the wrong way with his funky yellow Z with a red dragon on the roof, so I can understand your frustration to a degree. But by the same token, that fella had some serious attitude problems and really messed up my chi, these fellas here now are at least genial and if not trying to get better, are listening when we tell 'em something.
Le sigh.
Just put on some rock music and rock out a while. Do some work on whatever's on your bench and let modeling therapy cool you out, too, so you can come back and enjoy AF, and all its aspects.

Will has steered the thread in the direction that I intend it to go. We have many valueable members, and at the same time we also have some members that are a little bit more annoying than the others. However, some of them are starting out and do not know the forum etiquette. There should be an error time allowed from the time they register and have some time for them to learn the forum. I'll admit I have been harsher on the newbies in the past, but I didnt realize it till somebody said so. So thats why this thread can lead in a positive direction.
The error time mentioned above is a time for them to learn the forum and get aquainted with it. Sure, it is annoying to see the same threads pop up from day to day, but they do have to learn. The stickies are a start, but if we dont point them in the right direction and just say THATS WRONG then we are hurting the forum more than they are.
Criticism needs to be joined with suggestions. Artists are critical of there own work, assholes are critical of others. Theres differences between being critical, and being constructive and critical. Critical points out all the wrong, and no good. Constructive criticism is good criticism, and quite often the best reply for a modeler to learn. If you point out the wrong, and then suggest how to fix it, or what they could do or have done then you are helping the community in the most profound and positive way.
Now, the good of all this thread is that we can realize our own personal flaws. Depending how you see it, it can be a blessing. I'll admit, I have been an ass in the past, I have been arrogant, but I wasnt meaning to. I always had the best intent but the way I expressed myself came across in the complete opposite way I had intended. Now, I wouldnt have realized that unless somebody had stepforward like they didnt and gace me some constructive criticism of saying that I was coming across that way, maybe I could compose myself differently. It really effected me and I thought about it hard, and still do to this day.
That, my friends, is the good of this thread. If you cannot see the positive in the thread then I dont know what to do to help. This thread points out some flaws, but also has suggestions and this is the way I hope the thread will carry on.
I hope you understand what I am saying and why I believe the thread should stay open.

Hi all,
This is an interesting thread...
I am a newbie in this forum and I have no skills. I have no problems admitting it too... :)
The reason why I like this forum is people here are usually very friendly and mature. I agree to a certain extent that a lot of the posts lately are kind of needless and can be eliminated. But I can always skip them if I don't like to read them.
Everyone needs to start somewhere. I believe all of us here were newbie at one point. To me, getting acknowledgements and feedback from fellow modellers is the most important reason why I post my projects here. Because my models always look good to my eyes. It is the feedback and constructive criticism from others that make me better. I really need to thank this forum for making my modelling experience more rewarding.
I think this forum is doing a very good job in allowing everyone (regardless of skill level) to share their creations. If there are any signs that this is going to change, I think it will discourage any newbies from sharing their models (may be this is what most here want to achieve, I don't know).
Is this a good thing?
I understand it will be much more informative to just have a list of high quality builds to look at and learn from them. But I do believe the newbies need their encouragements too. I see it as a chance to promote this hobby. When they feel better in their skills and take the criticism seriously, they will surely bring their skills to the next level and create some better builds in the future. If they feel good about themselves, they will share the experience with others and get them into this hobby...I am such an idealist. ;)
As far as I know, this hobby is in the downfall already. I think if we do not get more people in this hobby, it will quickly get eaten up by the diecast movement.
We should remember that the one passion we share in this forum is the love of the hobby!
This tells me that there is at least one thing we share in common.
Can we all get along and love each other? :)
Winston

i love the forum very much as it is very informative. i learn alot of stuff here like scratch building, using castrol brake oil to remove paint, using poly putty and exopy putty, the correct way of sanding and spraying....lots more.....
i do deny every builds i make have flaws but it seem although i asked for opinions from people online, i do have problems while doing practical. Things do not go the way i want. Anyway, thanks to AF, i think my builds are getting better and better and reduce the time taken for each kit. The actual reason sometimes i 'bump' my threads is because i wan people to leave comments on the kits so i can continue to evolve my skills..
yeah, i agree with winstona, we should all love each other here :)

just want to comment on one thing that i know i'm guilty of.
i don't post many pictures of the things i do mainly because i work incredibly slowly due to my commitment to my "real world" work. as such, i prefer to bring back my old threads and put new pics in there instead of opening a new thread. I also try to keep all of my questions relating to that particular build in that thread.
in the times when i have opened a thread asking a particular question, i again, tend to keep posting in that thread to keep it updated (and again to minimise opening to many threads)
if i worked fast enough, or perhaps had enough time to work on these things as much as i would like to, i'd probably have longer, more progressive threads instead of the slow gradual progress.
how does this fit into the scheme of things?

That's essentially just what you should do, keep all of one build in one thread. However, I'd suggest possibly more questions out of that thread and posting them up front; people might find the answers to those questions useful for other kits, not just the one you're building, and more people could benefit. Otherwise, keep on rockin'!

I joined wen I was 14, but only asked questions to help me. I know my models are not good, but I was too embarassed to post my early pics. Maybe some of the noobs should remember this and stop waisting space. Look 112 posts in 2 years 5 months. Remember this when after 5 months you have made over 500 posts, geez this isn't MSN its a Forum to post small, simple messages.

Seems like sharing is exclusive to a select few, my mistake, i did not intentionally try to decrease this forum's valuation, i wasn't aware of AF's IPO.
>>In fact you guys dont even really build them, you just post countless pictures of unpainted bodies<<
Use the search function.

Quote :Big Kahuna : I personally think the initial content and this follow up justification to be extremely immature and pretentious. I do see that he made an effort to apologise, but it's kinda late as the naming damage had been done<
And mayhaps therein lies the true intention of this rant?
Admittedly, this may have caused Chad to lose his patience: ( http://www.automotiveforums.com/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=500295&page=5 ), for which i had already apologised soon after. Hmm seems to be a pattern, nah.
>>your models suck ass and your constant post suck even worse<<
Everyone's entitled to their opinions, all forms of criticism welcomed, yes, even yours.
Fortunately the rant did evolve in a more constructive direction. My query for the MODERATORS: i do not question the fact that mindless banter is unnecessary & should be kept to a minimum or in PM, however, is Naming, Blaming & Shaming without due diligence now encouraged? Is it really that hard to see the translucent, thin veil used as a poor excuse for a cover.
On a lighter note, the rant does one give deja vu visions of being 14 again & having your name scribbled on the toilet wall or sumthin'.
I await response from the Moderators.
ps-cham2020 & gamerX, i'm not presumptious neither will i simply jump to conclusions, but regardless of whether u guys are 14yr-old kids or not, PM me if required, i'll direct you u to a friendlier forum where the peeps are of all age groups & walks of life, friendlier bunch too, more patient more forgiving, less of this imbecilic, God-Almighty, self-righteousness. Free to ask questions with no fear of reprisal or making mistakes. Just use AF as a library source for tips.

Hi guys...
I've been visiting this incredible forum for quite a while now and found it to be the friendliest, relaxed, most welcoming and inspiring forum for the commited glue-sniffing-adddict.
OK...this thread scaled me down by a factor of 24... I opened the gullwing door of my (still in the box and sealed, hence no WIP) DeLorean B2TF TimeMachine and ZOOOOOOMed back some 13-or-so years. Once of a sudden I was 14 again, proudly showing my first (brush)painted model to my parents. They admired it and said something like "AWESOME BUILD" - I was happy and brushpainted 3 more models with the exact same technique (all AWESOME BUILDS as you guessed). Some time later a friend who was also building models said I should try using spraycans...and convinced me by showing me his collection. So I began using cans and improved my awesome brushpainting finishes to really good orange peel ones. Guess what? Right..."AWESOME" again. So I luckily went ahead and put vitamines on each model i built. Some time later somebody who works in a bodyshop suggested clearcoating the models, so I went ahead and invested the money I had in a can of gloss-clear ...WOW!!!
All of a sudden the vitamines had a nice shine and a smoother surface (like apples on the supermarket shelve)....imagine how proud I was! Later i discovered primer and sandpaper...you guess what happened.
Allright I thought, climbed back into my DeLorean and came back, this time observing all the posted time travel speed limits...enabling me to clearly see all the progress I made over the years - and all the new cusswords invented in the process of screwing up things BIG time and frequently. Passing the >>EXIT in 1 1/2years<< I remembered discovering AF...quite interesting how much I learned from you guys and your outstanding (well, most of it ;-) work.
Conclusion: don't miss the EXIT, or you'll be late for work :banghead:
- "AWESOME BUILD" comments make you happy but don't help you improve your skills. Constructive criticism opens your eyes to improvements that might just not have crossed your mind yet.
- It takes a lot of time, mistakes, the aforementioned criticism, looking at better (than yours) builds and sliced/cut fingertips to hone your skills.
- Skills, patience and a good eye help you build good or very good models...but in order to reach the level of perfection displayed by some people here you need more: Simply put...beeing older and thus having more money to spend on kits and supplies enables you to take your very good skills to excellent results!
So please, treat the (younger/unexperienced) modelers nicely and help them improve...they'll grow up, might even surpass you (skillwise) in a couple of years and you'll go :cya: :uhoh: :cya:
Sebastian
PS: Sorry if comment is too long...critics welcome and appreciated:licka:

I haven't been browsing or posting very much lately. It's not because of the newbies or their work. It's simply the paragraph long run-on sentences that are incoherent and hard to decipher that have almost become the norm here.
There's a couple posts similar to what I'm describing on this very page in fact.
I'm not talking about the non-english speakers, or the occasional mispellings.
It's not too hard to use capital letters, and the occasional comma or period.
Only mods can stop this, and make people make an effort to make coherent posts.
cause it's like i like af and the people and all and like keeping my peeps up to date on my work fo sho and am willing to share tips and handy crap and answer questions but when i cant understand the question yo its hard to give and intelligent reply know what i'm saying

Matt, I completely agree with you. That is the thing that annoys me the most. It is an unwritten rule to type coherently so that others whose native tongue is other than english can understand what we are saying. As stated before, this is not a chat room where you need to type quickly; this is a board, where people read your posts later. If anything, in my mind it makes the author appear lazy, or of a young age. Yes, that is a stereo type but the truth is, how many adults do you see typing like that?
So the solution is for people to type coherently. As Matt stated, not everybody speaks English as their first language. We dont need this to be Grammar Forums, or the Spelling Board, we just need people to type to the best of their ability. I've seen several people whose language is other than English type better than me, and thats embarrassing on my behalf.
I do send many people messages asking if they can stop typing in "chat form" and most heed the "warning" for a few days, then they stop typing coherently.
So please remember, this isnt a chat room this is a board and you can take your time to spell correctly. Dont do it for me, do it for the courtesy of others.

Ok heres my thoughts. I agree with both sides. Im still somewhat of a newbie here (because I think I suck at modeling). I come in here to get tips, pointers, and ideas all the time. This forum is great for that, but what i've noticed alot of regulars or older members seem rude when a newbie asks a question that has been asked before. Its always answered with FAQ'S and some snide remark or an attempt to (IMHO) make them look stupid by adding a rude remark along with the answer "READ THE FAQ'S". I've been a member of AF for a couple years now, mainly at first it was in the Camaro section. And in the Camaro section we knew we would get newbies in there asking the same questions on a daily basis ( its a part of life, its going to happen) but we always answered them then we added that if they needed anymore help to try the FAQ'S. In this section its backwards to me. I'm almost afraid to ask a question because of the response I will get. I think us regulars should be alittle bit more tolerant of newbies who ask the same questions. I understand its annoying but to me it shows class when you answer it by saying "hey try this or i use this paint" instead of blurting out FAQ's.
How many of you guys go to model shows and look at the cars and ask a guy how he did this or how he did that? I bet you $10.00 he doesnt tell you to read the FAQ'S, he answers you. Now think how many times that guys gets asked that at a show, hundereds i bet and we all know most people who take models to shows go to more than one which means they do it on a regular basis and get asked the same question over and over.
Now as for the chatroom thing I would have to agree with Chad on this. I hate having to skip through half the first page to try to find any tips, ideas and such. Yes I know I could just skip the threads but you never know what you might miss if you dont look through a thread, so I try to look at them all if I can unless I'm looking for something specific. Maybe we could set up some type of a chatroom for the model section so members can go in and talk to each other, this would keep alot of unwanted posts down to a minimum.
I hope this isn't to long or boring but anyway those are my thoughts on this.

>>I have said earlier, this thread should be on how we can improve the problems that Chad is facing<<
It's already been answered by various other members, if one perceives that a certain thread or posts are nothing but idle banter by 14yr kids:
-you can choose not to read or
-use the ignore-list button
>>About your question about naming, blaming and shaming. I believe I said befoe something to the extent of this shouldnt be a war of blaming certain people<<
And the intial starting thread does EXACTLY that: NAMES, BLAMES, SPECIFIC NICKNAMES.
My beef is this Mike, I have less than 100 posts since joining AF 2.5yrs ago, admittedly i did chat in some threads recently but since when does answering questions or sharing related-info qualify as useless banter. Does it warrant SPECIFIC naming of NICKNAMES or uncalled-for, uncivilized insults only to 'apologise' later.
Should i SPEFICALLY name the moderators nicknames & accuse them of DOUBLE-STANDARDS (for not editing or deleting the nicknames from the initial post) only to 'apologise' for my 'rashness' afterwards? That's what Big Kahuna meant by pretentious.
Look, if i were here to stir up trouble, i woulda done it ages ago, you guys are the Mods in this little spot in cyberspace, how you guys choose to deal with this is your call, however, doing nothing about the initial 1st post is akin to admission that double-standards DOES in fact exist.
I grow weary of explaining the obvious, Mods just do as you seem fit.

Double standards do exist. It is our duty as a moderator to judge whats allowed and whats not. We have that right as given to us by Igor, the owner. We are to use personal judgement. Therefore, it is impossible for some double standards not to exist.
Everyone is a little rash everyonce and awhile, sometimes people just need to have an emotional dump, just as Chad did. He apologize for some of his actions and his apology should be accepted.
Sometimes when it comes down to it, names need to be named.
Now...what solution can you see of this? Lets keep this a positive track thread instead of making it about whats wrong.

snip - a good look at both sides of the coin - snip
I agree with you a lot, actually. As much as the same question every week bugs me, it bugs me more that people just refer the new people to the FAQ. If it's so much freakin' trouble to type out an answer to the question, how is it any less trouble to point out the FAQ and be a jerk about it? If you so badly don't want to answer the question, feel free to do just that - not answer the question! I do that a lot, actually. If I see a thread that is a question I don't feel like answering, I don't go in it - an action that I actually am embarassed to admit. Often, people post questions after reading the FAQ, and they didn't get an answer that meant much to them. Sorry, guys, but there is a lot of model specific jargon that we use around here that the fresh builders just won't understand, I'd be surprised if a lot of the FAQ, especially the painting parts, meant much to them. And in that same vien, have ya'll ever thought that the FAQ might be too specific? That it might be hard to answer simple, general questions by just reading the FAQ? Did it ever occur to ya'll that the reason we go to school is because it's nice to have a teacher to talk to and interact with to help us learn better instead of just reading out of a book?
If you don't want to answer newbie's questions, skip it!!!
If you don't like a poster or his threads, skip it!!!
I'd rather be a part of a forum full of pleasant mediocre modelers than a bunch of awesome model building jerks.

Dam Chad! What crawled up your ass today? This is so very similar to my anti-noob thread a few months back. I have noticed most of the noobs were sticking together and mostly posting in their own threads. How does this bother you? I can read it, see it ins't up to your standards of thread or model quality. It doesn't bother me though. So he wants to post up a bunch of shit. That is fully upon himself. Where he goes on about why noone replies, that is just too bad for him he can't figure it out. Kick back tho man. FTW and enjoy your models.

Also, how some people post like 5 consecutive times in one thread instead of going to edit their 1st post.(kinda like this;)) Kinda makes the thread seem dumb. I vote Chad to be AF official grammar MOD:grinno:
