hi all
i picked up a 98 rodeo Ls 4x4. i knew it may have some things that it may need to be fixed (as with any used car)the thing that is most predominant is
the noise under the hood at first i thought was a tensioner pully.my 01 chevy sounds the same when it rains and it sits over night.nope
pullys good. the sound seems to be coming from just behind the thordle body
i keep centralizing on the manifold i suspect that there might be a air leak,or posiblely some hose or conection loose there, most times when i start it it surges between 750 and 1500 rpm 2-3 times and dies, restart and keep the foot in the gas for a few and then fine. does any body have any ideas
or have herd this thing before?

This is a bad intake manifold gasket. They are a thick plastic type material that often break. You get the symptoms you describe from the vacuum leak. If you trace where the common chamber runners meet up with the cylinder heads, that's where the IMG(s) are. One per side.
