Two Upgrade questions

Greetings,
Has anyone installed a K&N air filter in their I30, I35 or G35? The part number for a 2002 I35 is K&N 33-2031-2. Should be the same for G35 since they share the same engine. The cheapest price I've found via the Internet is $40 plus S&H. I assume the computer will adjust to or "learn" about the added air flow and not trigger the "service engine soon" light.
Second question, my I35 did not have a factory rear spoiler on it. The dealer sells the spoiler for about $500. I've found what looks like the same spoiler at Sportwing.com and the price is $244 plus S&H. That price is for a factory-style spoiler with third brake light and painted to match you car's color. You just need to install it yourself or find someone you trust to drill the holes. I added an after-market spoiler to my '98 Avalon and saved over $200.
Has anyone made either of these upgrades?

I think that you'll be ok with the sportwing.com spoiler as long as your car isnt' a pearl paint. I've seen people try to match aged pearl paint and it is almost 99% impossible to match the paint on 1 piece of plastic. If they redid the back end of the car to fade it maybe. Another concearn is placement of the wing, there are a couple of maximas in our group that have OEM look a like wings and they just don't fit perfectly or are a little off. Good luck

My car is brilliant silver (paint code KYO) so the paint should match. When I installed a rear spoiler on my '98 Avalon the paint was off just a touch. The car was two years old when I did the install so I figure the paint on the car had "aged" and the freshly painted spoiler was correct for a new car.
That should not be a problem with the I35 because it's new.
If I can figure out how to post images I'll send some before and after pictures once I complete the install. I plan on doing that within a month.

I didn't catch that you are talking about a NEW car, there shouldn't be any problems then. Sorry bout the confusion

There is no "attach file" option on the screen I get when I'm on this forum. I've done some checking and was told I had to uplaod any pictures to the server that acts as my host. Then I'm supposed to type in a "link" to the site and identify the photos I want to some up in the post. Sounds like a lot of work. If I've been given bad info or I'm missing something about the forum page please let me know.
I have a nice digital camera but no experience with attaching pictures to forum posts.
Regards
P.S. I just found the "attach file" option at the very bottum of the page. I'll try and send a photo in my next post. Thanks again.

If I've done this correctly one photo should be attached to this post. It's a side view, nothing fancy, of my I35. This will be a "before" photo of the car as I got it. I'm ordering the factory-stlye rear spoiler from SportWing.com. I'll install it myself after I work up the courage to drill holes in my NEW car! :-)
Regards,

P.S. No go on the phot. I got a warning the file was too big. Sorry. I'm using a 5.1 million pixel camera so the images are in the 400-600K range.

Yes, I did install the K&N air filter in my '02 I35. The part number is K&N 33-2031-2. It went in as a direct replacement for the stock air filter. If I remember correctly I had to add one or two sections of foam to make a better seal for the K&N. These items came in the box with the filter and instructions. I can't find the bill for the K&N but I remember the filter cost was around $40 and I ordered from a dealer via the Internet. Do a search with something like "Google" and just list "K&N 33-2031-2" That should give you a bunch of sites selling it. Let me know if you need any more info.
Oh, I can't honestly say that I get better gas mileage with this filter but I know the engine gets more air. The computer "learned" about the change in air flow and did not cause any rough running or the like. My best fuel mileage to date (I only check after a long highway run) has been just over 29 MPG. More trips deliver around 24-26 MPG.
