just finished my door panels and about done with the sub box. i still have to build the cover for my capacitor in the center of the truck. i removed the 6 1/2 components and replaced with 2 6 1/2 alpine r's. in the back put a jbl 1200.1 sub amp and a mtx 7804 4 channel, all mounted behind the rear seat for security and more room. let me know what you guys think.

Wow, man. That looks tight. Nicely installed my friend. I've been thinking of some way to try and tweak the back door speakers. Haven't pulled the panel off yet to see what's behind-em. Again nice install man.

that does look great. i want to do something just like that. did you have to make an amp rack or can you just screw the amps in behind the back seat? how do those type-r's sound, are they components?

I got a question is it possable to swap the rear speakers with 6x9's would it even sound better??? when I had my caprice the back had 6x9s and I got use to them behind me I just wonder if there is a way nice setup sport how did you get your driver side door panels to look like that?? did you just drill through the panels and mounted them??

i took a piece of 1/2 inch mdf and cut it to fit the back and then covered it in speakers box carpet to make it look better. if it was going to be seen i would have made it look cleaner but i am happy with it. the type r's sound really good, and they are just the coaxials from last year but they have crossovers and hook up just like components do.

i don't know of any way to sawp the rear speakers for anything other than
4x6's. that is one of my next projects over the next few weeks hopefully. the door panels where a pretty good amount of work. i took the panel off and pulled the grill off, then i took the grill onto a piece of 3/4 inch mdf and traced it out. then i had to cut the factory tweeter hole bigger. i wrapped the wood in carpet for padding to fill in any bumps in the wood then i bought some vinyl from the fabric store and covered them and screwed them into the door.

this is what my factory panel looked like, you probably have the more standard door panel. they made 2 different styles. mine had factory components.

ya if you wanted to make them look like mine you would need new panels. you could make the ones you have work but you would probably have to fiberglass them to make them form to the door and make the speakers fit.

I love what you did with the door panels, I would have never thought of that.

I actually just bought my 2001 1500(5.3L) a week ago and have been thinking of ways to add some subs under the rear seat for the same obvious reason, to save space. I was thinking two seperate boxes under the back seat, but the one solid box would be more stable in rough conditions.

Just a few questions...

On the Sub box did you make it one solid unit? Or is it basically two seperate boxes connected together? I tried to figure it out from the pics you have posted and it's to hard to tell. Didn't know if maybe it would mess up the air volume of the box. And do you have it mounted in any way to the vehicle, or is it just fit to the space under the seat so it stays in place without mounting? That's one of my biggest problems with just throwing a sub box in the back seat is that it just bounces around where ever it decides to, and if I were to brake for a deer I'd have a box bouncing off my seat, which in my opinion is unacceptable.

thanks for looking at post. the best way is to make it all one box. mine is all one box but i had to work around all the wires in the middle for my cap, if that wasn't going to be right there it would have been alot easier. my seat just lays on top of my box, it is not mounted down at all. but it doesnt move any at all. if you go to www.audioenhancers.com they have alot of different boxes for our trucks, you can order them at any circuit city store, or just build them from the specs they have online, that is if you want to spend the time cutting and screwing the box. make sure if you build it yourself use 3/4 inch MDF and use some kind of good sealant, like liquid nails or nail power.

I went to that site, audio enhancers, and I like the GMX190. I have 2 Infinity Kappa 12's. I know they are recommended for more space than that box, but do you think they would still give a little thump? I would be pushing them with a 400 watt 2 channel Alpine amp. Also, anyone have any idea what these boxes cost? Nearest Circuit city is an hour for me and there are no prices on the web page. BTW, I have a 2000 extra cab.

one thing on the kappa's they are pretty deep i think. you want to make sure that they will fisically fit into the box. but i would say they would be ok as long as you go to wal-mart or a fabric store and buy a bag of poly-fil and fill the box with that. the air space should not be to far off for the subs though. as long as the amp has the power you should be fine. i think the boxes are around 170-200 bucks. you could probably find it cheaper on the web, but then shipping is alot. the cheapest way is build it yourself. the site gives you most of the measurements.

I was checking out my truck on the way home from work yesterday and I have that same panel that you installed the door speakers on, So I'm assuming I must have the Component Speakers as well. Which would make upgrading the sound system alot easier because the component holes are already there. Don't think I'd need two mids in each door panel. If I were to go the custom panel route I'd probably do the same with the mid on the bottom, then figure out a way to aim a tweeter up towards the driver/passengers heads, then finish if off alot like yours. But on the other hand I'm not very good at creating things like this, so I'll probably just keep the factory holes and upgrade the speakers.

i had a pair of alpine components in my doors until i decided i wanted to do something more custom. when you take the factory tweeter out all you have to do is get some metal backstrap. they usually come with cd players but any stereo shop should have them. you can bend them to the shape and angle you want the tweeters to aim. its very easy to do and it will still look factory.

Is there a decent drawing/dimensions available anywhere?

i think you are asking about a sub box?? if so go to www.audioenhancers.com and click the box you want and it should go to a drawing that has most of the sizes and with a little figuring you can get the others.

Yea, thats it. Which one is better for a pair of tens/eights? I'm not looking at rattleing the neighbors windows, just some clean bass. Thanx

i would go with 10's, 8'2 just aren't big enough to do much of anything. and which box you go with depends on how much air space the sub you pick needs. every sub has a rating on how many cubic feet it needs.

Thanx, how about the bazooka tubes? Are they worth it? They might be the easy way out. Thanx

it all depends on how much bass you want. for me a bazooka tube is not enough, but it miht be for you. when customers come in and want one we have a demo setup that we can put in there car and let them hear what it will sound like and about 90 % of people want more bass that a tube.
