I am spraying Tamiya Acrylics through an airbrush and have always used water for thinning, after reading a few threads on here I now realise that is not the way to go.
So if using Tamiya thinner what ratio mix have you guys found is best?

I'm very imprecise; I mostly just eyeball it until it looks about right. For airbrushing, I usually end up using about 7:10 thinner to paint, I guess... Some guys on here will say that's too much thinner. ;) It just takes a bit of practise to find how you like it. :)

I airbrush straight from the bottle, for metallics they are a bit coarse so I go for a 8:2 paint/thinner ratio (done on a 0.5 mm nozzle) at a low PSI, around 10-15. Ken Hartlett from Ken Hartlett's Motorcycle Modeling page has some old Tamiya paint manuals (from mid 80s or so) that state never to thin Tamiya acrylics more than 9:1 paint to thinner, but hey, who's counting.
Also, do yourself a favor and get the 250mL container of Tamiya thinner, it may be a bit expensive but it will last you a lifetime.

i use Tamiya arcrylics all the time with my airbrush and thin at 50/50 paint to thinner but 50/40 is pretty much spot on and allways use tamiya thinner as it has a spreader in it to make the paint spread out on the job.:p

1 tiny question... if you mix paint with thinner in 50/40 ratio, where went the last 10%?? :D
