I am in the process of buying a 3" fiberglass hood from summit, and was just wondering, will it really help all that much in getting fresh cool air in there, and is the fiberglass really all that much lighter then the stock hood?
Its a 92 rs with the 305 5.0l

A cowl hood would help a lot more if the intake was right up there on top of the engine like the air cleaners on carburated engines, not much help when the intake is up front. It will help get some cool air in the engine compartment but not much.

If you buy a non-drop base with a 14 by 3-4 inch filter for like 30 bucks at advance, I think you would see a significant differance. I went from the stock black housing with a K&N filter to a paper 14 by 3in drop base and I could feel the differance, and that was with the stock hood. Make sure to get the non-drop base, cause otherwise you'll have issues with clearing the throttle linkage, distributor, plug wires, and plus it will flow better. And you don't need the drop base cause you'll have plenty of hood clearance

Yeah, then it would help, that's what cowl hoods are for. I didn't know your car was carbed, you said it was a 92 (I think) and I figured it wasn't carburated. I thought you had an LB1...:lol2: J/K

it should help alot getting the cold air in and the hot air out....normally with the stock hood...there is not alot of room to move air out...cowl hood will be alot better
