np 205 transfer case problems

Just want to know what is the best way to adjust the 4x4 linkage.The truck is a 78 f 150.This thing wont engage in 4 wheel low until you pull the handle back just a tiny bit.Would I be better off just to chineese blueprint it off of another one that works to get an idea of where the linkage should be.
