help! my drivers' side window all of a sudden just went down. i think the cable may have broken. the mechanical part of the automatic windows work great - it just isn't moving the window up as it should. please give me some advice. my window is stuck in the open position and it's going to rain in a few days. i'm trying to avoid going to a dealership where we all know they love to jack up that bill for labor.

Hey Jeeperz25,
Sounds like your Window Regulator just went. It's a common prob being that the part is just plastic and breaks easily.
Get a new one and to replace you may have to drill out the old one since it may be riveted in (at least mine is on my '88, but still working ok...knock on wood!)
Thx, Phil

My rear passanger window did this, I just unplugged the wire from the motor and stuck two wires running off of a battery into the plug on the electric motor. The motor will work by doing this so the window will go up and buy you some more time so you can fix it properly. Unfortunatley, I never did and I just lived with a window that doesn't roll down.

I have been through this with both driverside and passenger side windows. I had to wait to fix the problem so in the mean time I took off the door panels and just pushed the window up. When I had the window up I used cable ties to rig it to stay up. I put them through the track and the window. This was done on a 99 cherokee. Took about 10-15 minutes on each side. Hope this helps. You can change the window regulator by yourself also, not that hard.
