What brand of plugs/wires are the best for an '85 SS? I think I have the Bosch platinums in there right now (not sure about wires) but I have read that the AC Delco's are better. What do you guys have in your own cars?

For all the GM vehicles i have owned now and in the past (16 at present count,) I have used AC Delco brand plugs and wires. I worked in auto parts retail/wholesale for many years in the past and reccomended AC's to the customers. We had many customers who came in with driveability problems,( hard starting, misfiring, poor fuel economy, etc.) after using aftermarket plugs and or wires which were purchased because they were 'cheaper in price, on sale, or reccomended by the salesperson.' Those problems most of the time were corrected when they went back to the OEM plugs, and wires. GM spends millions of dollars in research on parts for their vehicles, and they are the best fit for the application.

Thanks for the reply. I have heard that "performance" plugs like Bosch aren't that good for a stock vehicle. I will have to change back to the AC's soon because my car's not running like I think it should, and it's certainly not getting close to the gas milage it is rated at. Do you know the part number, or where I could find it? What auto parts stores carry the AC Delco's?

10-4 On the AC delco plugs. For GM. Do not leave home with them.:grinyes:
Also AC delco oil and air and fuel filters and pcv valve are a good choice.
When you buy the ac plugs have them check the ac plug book for your application.

they guys are right, AC delco, afterall they're GM parts.. and for others reading this dont buy those plugs that have the 3 metal tips at the electrode im not sure exactly what they're call but u have probably seen them on shelves...its all bullshit theres no performance gain, think about it an electric current will only go to the closest souce of metal contact therefor only one contact point is used...not all 3, so dont buy that shit there are expensive and they arent worth it.

I agree 100% with the previous posters. Multi-electrode plugs are gimmicky garbage, and Bosch plugs in general are total JUNK. Stick with OEM, Delco for GM, Motorcraft for Ford, and Champion for Chrysler.
