I don't like European cars too much, but this did grab my attention.

beautiful yes, powerful yes.....forced induction, unfortunately yes...It's a mercedes-benz? yes....unfortunately.....and they jumped from 4th place in the JD Power Customer Satisfaction to 9 from the bottom currently.....pathetically yes.

That's for the S65 AMG only...I've seen a few new S550s because the Mercedes-Benz of NA is only 3 minutes from me in Montvale, NJ, and BMW of NA is their neighbor. So they're probably coporate test cars that I see every now and then.

I don't think they're out... this was the first I had seen of them

Gey. Mercedes have become nothing but fast moving lumps of crapily designed metal - kinda like BMW, but with less dedication.

The 221 chassis is currently out in the 550 version and dealerships are taking orders. I don't think we've delivered one to a customer yet but we have a demo vehicle that barely rests due to all the test drives. The 220 S65 version is a blast to drive and I'm sure the 221 will be even better. I'll let you guys know after I get it sideways in Beverly Hills.... :icon16:

DUMB!! Mercedes and BMW's are the most technologically advanced vehicles on the road, PERIOD. Not to mention the S-class is arguably the safest production vehicle ever built. But I would love for you to explain how Mercs and BMW's are "crapily designed"....

I can support the crapily designed quote. So about that new version of the Active Cruise Control....It's supposed to now aid you when there's low to no visibility by detecting an obstruction in the road and by sensing that obstruction, it automatically brings a car to a immediate halt without driver intervention if the computer senses a possible damaging collision. Well, to prove this, TopGear (yes the show) had requested that mercedes show an experiment. So off the Mercedes goes.......Beep Beep (brakes apply).....BAM....a little too late....yes the Mercedes crashed into the test obstruction, gave it a nasty fender bender and bent the hood.

I saw it on Google Video but I cant find the video any more...maybe come back in a lil bit.

I assume you're talking about Distronic. This system was not designed to make your vehicle apply full braking power beause it sees an obstruction. There's no chance in hell that system would be legal. Think about it....the vehicle has COMPLETE control of stopping itself?? Yeah, sounds pretty dumb.

Distronic cannot make up for a moronic driver. I believe the system is only designed to use 20% of braking power to follow another vehicle on the freeway. Warning lights and a nice buzzer will warn you if the vehicle in front is stopping faster than Distronic can....and that's where the driver comes in.

Id rather have the new M5 or M6... they got a black one in at my BMW dealership so I may need to go look at it for an upgrade. Though my friend’s dad was going to look at this car but I will try to get him to sway to BMW.

Hm, must be a new system only available on the new S-class. But none of those articles mentioned anything close to specifics of the system and how it's suposed to operate or, well, anything technical. I'll see if I can get some good info at work tomorrow....if i remember. :icon16:

Soon enough....I'll try to do 120 down Rodeo Dr. in an S65 just to see if the system works. If the system fails and I end up hitting Paris Hilton I'll call it a success!! :grinyes:
