Ive got all of the bolts out and the y-pipe is disconnected and my a/c unit is out of the way. What else has to be done to remove the passenger side header? The thing just wont come out! (edelbrock tes headers fyi)

You need a B.F.H.

no it wasnt stuck to the head just kept catching on everything like the brake lines wires a/c box......what a pain in the butt.... got it out though after much wiggilling and wedging. Dont know how I going to get it back in but ill figure that out later. I started out just wanting to adjust the throttle stop on my car. Then I wanted to check my header bolts to make sure they were all tight because I was getting a bad leak. Then once I found them all to be tight I jacked the car up to take a look at the coupler. Looked ok but it was rusted up a bit so it was hard to tell . Then I try to tighten the bolts down........then came death itself...The bolt was so rusted that it was completely frozen and the bolt sheered off. I tried to get it out with several methods(that would fit in the tight space) and so concluded that the header would have to come out. So I crawl all around trying to get those friggin header bolts out and finally get them all. Then I went back down to take out the other coupler bolt and as its coming out it sheered off.....Then I just get pissed and stomp around a bit and couldnt get the header off becauce i had no patience left....So now its out...its late....and I have no car until tommarrow if/when I can get a new gasket and get these bolts out or do whatever to get it to all go together.

I know how that is. I got scared when the manifold bolts started breaking off in the manifold. I got rid oy my A/C, so the pass was alittle easy...

What type of header gasket do you guys think is best?

Ive been told by some people to use double copper gaskets...is that a good idea?

i've never heard that before, and can't see what difference it would even make.

I have the percys seal 4 good - multi layered dead soft aluminum gaskets... expensive but never had a leak + they are reusable...

Reason #543 not to use headers on street cars. I've been there myself and stopped using them, too many compromises to be made for my satisfaction.

For installation tips, you may get some extra room by removing the motor mount cross bolts and jacking up the engine. I've had cars where I had to drop the tierods out of the way. Once I had to dig a hole in the ground to get a set into a car, I had no floor jack and was working outside.

Reason #1,345 to have a jack or a pair of ramps, less digging.

It was my own dumb fault. The flange was caught on the solid brake line and it wouldnt come out. Its a squeaze but its not that bad. Those bolt arent any fun though. I used a felpro gasket. Its a dual core gasket. Its all sealed up fine. The old metal ones were leaking pretty bad.

i fitted my tes headers on saturday, it looks as if i'm gonna have trouble clearing the oil pan tho. might require a custom made extension of some sort.
