1996 cherokee sport

i have a 1996 jeep cherokee sport 4x4 my check engine light came on and lately while i am dirving when i press the gas it sometimes start to not want to go and i can press the gas and the rpms stay under 1000 then all the sudden it will go after press the gas over and over. can anyone tell what they think it may be?

it hesitates? is that what ya mean? try the tps...

actually (don't any one laugh) but, I have an 87 Saab 9000 Turbo that did the same thing what that was is the distrubutor, I started acting up on me, I didn;t really think n e thing of it bcus it was almost 20 yrs old. I was about 1.5 hours form home all day, I finally get about 5miles form my house and the distributor cam apart inside... had to be towed.

You should retrieve the codes that caused your light to come on. You can usually go to any autoparts store and have them pull the codes for free. Once you have the codes, they will likely point you to the source.
