ok so i am looking to get an lt1 cam insted of a comp cam because it is cheeper and i here it is good for my 305 tbi. So i was wanting to know do i have to have any head work done when i put this cam in? How much hp will a lt1 cam add? And does any body know how long the timing chain last on this motor? i have 120,000 on it, but when i do the cam i think i will go ahead and replace the timing chain.

This is the best thread that I've seen on a cam swap, and he's putting an lt1 cam into a l03, so it would be good to check this out first. The lt1 is a good choice for this motor because it's cheap, works with the stock heads, and it's easy to tune. And, from what I've read, without a good tune on the prom your car will barley run, but after it gets a tune this cam is good for as much as 20 to 40 horsepower. If your not much into computers, then your best bet would be to buy a chip from tbichips.com, just tell him your mods and he'll send you a chip to get it up and running.

Im digging around for a aldl cable to hook up my car to my laptop. You can do data logging and then send that information to jetchips or hypertech and they will make you a custom chip.

Anyone ever buy from him? How good are the results?

I would send him an e-mail and tell him your mods and he can go from there. He knows pretty much what each mod will do, and he can guess what to modify for the best general results. The way to get the best tune from him would be to get a hold of wide band o2 sensor and do some datalogging with an aldlcable and a labtop with a rs-232 serial port (9 pin male port on the side of the labtop). But if you spend that kind of money for the o2, labtop, and cable then you should probably burn your own chips yourself and save yourself some money in the long run, especially if you plan on making more mods or an engine swap down the road. Plus you learn a lot about the workings of your tbi. But if all of this seems too daunting, the easiest and cheapest way to go would be to just tell him your mods and let him send you an off the shelf prom.

You can still see some positive gains from an off the shelf prom from him, right?

I know, i thought it was just a plug n' play deal. But you literally have to plug in and play with it once installed. I'm gonna wait my damn self.

Yea tbi is a little bit involved when it comes to tuning. Even when you get the aldl cable plugged into the diagnositc port and have all the software running, the '8746 ecu (l03 ecu) only gives you data every like 1.3 seconds. So if you datalog a 0-60 run and you do it in about 7 seconds, you only get like 5 or 6 different points telling you what your engine is doing. But there are people out there loyal to tbi that are making self tuning programs. It would be nice to just plug it in to my car, take a quick trip around the block and BAM, I've got a perfect tune in a few minutes compated to a few months of trying to learn DIY tuning.

what is the lift on a lt1 cam? .450? Because i saw some valve springs in my jegs mang and they said they are good for up to 450 lift, will these work? and they are made by comp cam.
