Celica Supra?

Alright, I am having a debate with someone. I am by no means some Toyota expert but he is saying that the first Supra was called the Celica Supra. He is saying that the Celica and Supra shared frames among other parts. Now here is my take, the Supra was introduced around 1986 and around that time you could get your hands on a Celica GTS. As far as I know, the Celica GTS was a turbocharged four cylinder while the Supra was a twin turbochaged six cylinder.

Now my question is, werent the Celica and the Supra two completely different cars? Did theyshare any major parts? And wasn' the Supra just called the Supra and the Celica was off by itself as well? I figured you guys would know these things better than I would, but I am pretty sure that the first gen Supra was completely seperate from the Celica.

Heres what I found on the Celica Supra...

1978 sees a new bodystyle introduced, with wide, prominent B-pillers. Motor Trend again honors the Celica. The next year, the Celica Supra is introduced. The original Supra was the first Toyota to receive EFI. Its 2.6 liter inline-6 engine produced 110 horsepower, 20 more than the GT, but the additional weight of the engine offset much of this gain. Supra features include a lengthened chassis and a grille reminiscent of the original 2000GT. In 1980, the Celica was again redesigned, with a different front-end treatment. For '81, a bored-out 2.4 liter version of the 20R, the 22R, was put in the ST and GT. The Celica Supra also received a new engine in 1981, the 5ME, the only year of its production

I think the Supra was originally a sort of trim line for the Celica... then seperated to a seperate model later... I just skimmed the article tho...

Just adding a few things,
The 82-85 Celica Supra looked almost identical to the Celica. Only difference was the front end, mainly the headlight style. From behind they looked the same. Also the engine was different, Supra had an inline 6, and the Celica is always 4.
In 86, the Supra finally became it's own car when the 86 Celica became FWD.
So before 86, the Supra was known as the Celica Supra, and still would be today if the Celica hadn't gone FWD on us.
