Abs!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hello,

I have read quite a few posts on ABS related problems, and now i'm having one of my own. Firstly, how sensitive is the ABS systems on everybody elses rodeo's? My 98 v6 S 5seed seems to be super sensitive, and when it comes on, it feels like mechanical mayhem! Its a loud grinding sound, and nothing like other abs systems i've encountered. Should i be able to continue applying pressure to the brakes when the abs kicks in? Can it be disconnected easily? My tires are pretty ordinary which i'm sure doesn't help, and i live in a ski resort where there is plenty of ice and snow.

Any help/recommedations besides new tire would be great. After driving vehicles in the snow for years, i know i would have far better luck pulling the vehicle up without ABS!

THANKS

NEILSON

I am sure the sytem on these vehicles is nothing special. I know when mine kicks in, it sounds like a jack hammer. It's rather annoying, but I like having the sytem on my Rodeo. In my opinion, it works alright, it just sounds and feels like garbage. I know the ABS recall for mine made a big difference. The previous owner nevber did it, but I took care of it and thought the difference was night and day.

Tires and shocks will help a lot.

If you don't like the ABS, you can pull the ABS fuse and it will turn it off (the ABS light will light on the dash).

Weak shock induced wheel hop is very common on rodeos and will cause the ABS to activate. New shocks will make a huge improvement on that. It does sound horrible when the ABS activates. It has on any ABS equipped vehicle I've ever driven:uhoh: . I don't like ABS for the simple fact it gets EXPENSIVE to fix as the vehicle ages. IMHO the rodeo ABS system is better than most, with the exciter ring bolted into the brake rotor as opposed to the wheel hub like GM trucks.

Thanks for the replies guys.

I guess i'll start with some new tires, and shocks if the bank permits, but may have to go with the fuse removal.

Cheers,

then you can just pull the bulb out of the dash!!:icon16:
