95 Jetta intermittent run rough

Any help or clue is appreciated!

I have a 95 Jetta with a 2.0L engine. It has 142K miles on it. The engine starts fine and a little rough between 1000 - 2000 rpm when cold. Occasionally, a couple minutes after start when just begining a drive, the engine will begin to miss and stutter. It will struggle for a couple minutes then the problem will disappear. It seems to do this when it is damp and cold out.

The plugs, distributor cap and button were replaced about 10K miles ago.

The fuel filter was replaced 10K miles ago.

Timing belt about 15K miles ago.

The fuel pump is not noisy.

In an attempt to find the problem, I have sprayed water using a windex bottle onto the ignition coil, wires and distributor with the engine running...this did not seem to bother it...ran just fine.

I really want to avoid replacing items one at a time...$$$$

Any ideas????

What? no takes on this one? Okay...for those of you that have a similar problem. I discovered that the rotor button in the distributor was burned to a crisp. I am surprised that the car ran at all. About 10K miles ago I replaced the distributor cap and rotor button. Both were original and worn badly. I initially bought both parts at a... large national discount chain with the big orange letters on the building above the door... After inspection of the distributor cap I thought to myself...gee this think really looks cheap. I returned the cap and bought a German made (after market that except for the missing Audi symbol looked the same as the original) :licka: cap which was a world of difference in quality. I kept the button though figuring...how could you screw up such a simple assembly. Well, I guess you get what you pay for. The rotor button has a resistor imbedded in it apparently to reduce EMI noise. This resistor on the after market button which I installed got hot enough to nearly burn the assembly in half. It has been replaced with the OE VW part from the dealer and the car runs fine.
