Manifold Noise 2000 Silverado

My 2000 Silverado has tapping/clicking sound only when accelerating (mostly from the driver side). The dealer ship told me that this was not injectors but a manifold design issue which all 5.3L have. Something about the way the gas comes out of the manifold.
Has any one else heard or been told the same? This started approx. 1 year after I purchased the truck.

I got 101K on this truck and hopefully its not worn out. This noise started approx. 1 year after I purchased it back in 2000. I haen't heard of too many folks who has heard this noise.

I'm not sure if this is what you are hearing, but take a look at the rear exhaust manifold bolt on the driver's side. GM V8's are notorious for breaking the rear bolt off during expansion and contraction. (service bulletins) My 5.7 did it, my 6.0 did it, and I've seen plenty of 5.3's that have done it. In the early stages, the leak seals up after a short warmup, but many times the broken bolt will allow the rear exhaust runner to crack. Then the ticking does not go away.:disappoin

In my 99 6.0 I had 6 bolts break in the exhaust manifold 4 on the driver side and 2 on the passenger side so I used a little JB weld on it and patched up the hole worked fine. I had 162000 miles on it when it happened and I just traded it in for $7500 with 167000 and it only been in the shop for a fuel pump at 160000 miles. NOTHING LIKE A CHEVY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:grinyes:

You know, I have this same sound. It sounds like I have an exhaust leak, but so far I haven't found one. I haven't been told anything about it but I do know what your talking about.

Mine started breaking with the last bolt closes to the firewall on the driver side you might want to start looking there.

I do know I have a bolt broken off under the truck where the pipe and manifold meet. I haven't looked where the manifold and head meet.

I'd be interested to know this too. I just found a broken one on the driver's side, front bolt. I'm sure it is a costly job to fix too?

The bad thing is that when you try to take the exhaust off you will break all the rest of the bolts off then you have to take the head off and drill all the bolts out. Patch it up and sell it that what I did let it be someone else headache:grinyes:
