hi guys..

l got my car from mechanic yesterday. and l asked him if he saw any other problem, and he told me that l had an oil leak. it wasnt dripping he said, it w wet under the engine he said.

do l have to fix oil leak immediately or it is not a big deal as long as l keep my oil level normal?

my mechanic told me that l got v8 and there is not much room to work and thats why v8 engine has more labor. becuse it is hard to work on them. and he said, it would be expensive to fix it.

l really do not wanna spend money on it anymore, if u guys have any easy ideas, that would be great.

thank you.

Erdal

hey man, sorry to hear about the leak. I would say check your level regularly. You should be fine with that. Definately put some dye in the oil, use one of those cool lights you get in the dye kit, and bam you see right where the oil is coming from, going, and blah blah. But anyway as long as you do'nt ahve puddles under there everyday, just check your level and maintain it, and you should be fine. Good luck!

I am not 100% on this...but isn't the Opti-spark the GM name for the distributor??
They are problematic on LT1 cars for sure.

the opti spark is the LT1 version of a distributer. Mostly failing due to getting wet too often....like if your water pump goes, pisses all over your opti spark...chances are your opti-crap is next. I never heard of them being a problem with oil leaks...but there is other gaskets in that area too sooo....who knows. The dye kit is the only way to really know.

If u need a new opti spark they are pricey...but i found a barely used one out of a wrecked vette for cheap. i'll let it go for 100 bucks if u need it. only works on 92-94 LT1's tho...the non vented. I forget what year the vented ones game out may have been 95 or 96.

nevermind, i just read your sig...97 LT1s deffinatly came with vented opti sparks...so mine won't work for you.

Your timing cover is probably leaking down by the pan seal. Thats a commen leak point whenever the timing cover has been taken off. The opti is right infront of that and thats why he is saying its the opti.
