hello, I got a 1989 Civic 4 door fully loaded, no ac. It overheats in about 2 minutes of running. I checked the thermostat, new....I checked the rad, no bubbles....I checked the oil and coolant.....no other fluids in it. ....Checked the Head Gasket...no leaks anywhere.......plus no White Smoke in the back. Just cean exhaust.....anyone know the problem........plus fans kick in also............I'm stuck

There are NO leaks. There is also no oil in the coolant, no Coolant in the oil, and no exhaust fumes, and also I tried pulling out the thermostat completely and it still overheats in about 3 minutes. Now, I heard from a source that the water pump fins could have broke or worn out. I have not checked the water pump, but both hoses, except the bottom hose get hot....so I don't know what's going on

you may also have a blockage in one of the hoses.. cuz u said one tube gets hot.. that and/or there are kinks in the tubes..

Check the water pump. You said all other components were ok. If you have to repl the water pump. you might want to put a new timing belt on there to. If you have time. Take all the hoses off and let the coolant drain out,and see if there is anything clogged. If there isn't then check the water pump.

When you said new thermostat, did you buy one and put one in, or just did a visual inspection? Only wey to tell if the thermostat is working is to put it in a pan over a stove with a thermometer. It should open around 160 or 180 depending on the setup. Anyways, is it backwards by any chance?

Well, i took the thermostat out and checked the Spring, not ceased and still very light to push. Then the thermostat was put in with the spring facing the back of the engine. Now, I also took out the themostat and it was still doig the same...now, I went to go work on it, and now the car is running on 3cyls. I dont know what's going on, but it was running like new when I got it., except for the overheating. I also would like to know where the waterpump is located. is it in the timing belt cover, run by the belt???

The overheating has never happened to me before, I've owned every type of honda and this is the first. I was actually gonna do the D16 head Swap, but I doubt the engine is strong now. but, the body id not that bad, but I mainly bought it for the reason it has PW, PDl. I love that feature the 88's came with, but this overheating is making me changes my mins sometimes. i aloso can't seem to find any bodykits for the four door. That's another things. oh well, let's hope I can get it going.
