swimming pool vic

today i happened to find a large sum of water in my right rear floor pan, window was not left open and i could not see or feel wet paths to how the water got there. has anyone else had yhis happen to them? 96 vic:banghead: thanks for your replies i have had to lift the carpet on the passenger side to tru and dry the saturation i dont think that the door was left open at all if it was it was not open enough to have the dome light on also i have notice that the insulation on the right fire wall is saturated as well however the water is clean and clear, how ever there has been a large sum of rain and wet snow here is it possible it came in from the heater box?

yeah that happened to me about a week after i bought my 97. I vacuumed the water out and a day later it was back in there, so i vacuumed it out again, it hasn't happened since. My leak seemed to come from under my driver seat somewhere.

If it is ex-police--look where the wiring came through the firewall. We have a lot of problems with that and the water enters the vehicle, runs doen undet the sill plates in that groove and dumps in the rear floorboard.

Yup, my 94 Marquis does the same thing. Right rear floor pan fills with water on a heavy rain.
Left front headlight also fills and blows out the bulb!

I would be willing to bet that you have a leak at a body seal in front of the heater air box. If you park the car with the nose pointed downhill and do not have a water ingress problem, this might be of help. If you open the hood and look on the passenger side of the car by the cowl, you will see a box under the cowl grill. This is the heater air inlet box. When you are driving in the rain this box seperates the water from the airflow so it doesn't rain in the car through the vents. It has a small flap vlave at the bottom of the box to drain the water. The box is actually inside the cabin and it vents the water out through the valve to to front of the firewall behind the right front wheel. I have seen this foam seal disolve on about 20 cv/gm vehicles since 1993. To replace the seal, you will need to pull the the heat/ac air box out and insall a new gasket. But it is a pain in the rear. The fastest fix I have found is to cut a square hole in the inner fender on the right side of the car just in front of the valve to gain access. Take some nice rtv silicone and coat the seal between the plastic valve body and the firewall liberally and let it dry. Do Not glue the flap shut with silicone or it will rain in the car. Let the rtv dry and then cut a piece of aluminum just larger than the acces hole and pop rivet it back over the access hole. The total repair should take under 1 hour. if you have trouble finding the flap valve, simply take a gallon of water and pout it into the heater inlet and look down the fire wall behind the pass side inner fender and you will see it drain out. if you do that, you will have to let it dry before using the rtv. let me know if this helps.
