Check Engine Light Blinks on 2001 model

When I turn on the engine to my 2001 2.0 Beetle, the check engine light blinks on and off. The engine is also idleing hard and seems to be shaking a bit.

The light has come on and blinked before but I thought it might have been losing traction since it always happened on ice or super wet roads. Now it is just parked in my driveway, and the light blinks on and off.

Any suggestions?

when the light is on steady it has a code stored in the compter when the light is flashing it is throwing the code at that time if you go to your local auto parts they will chek it for free
