anybody put an aftermarket carb in their caprice? if so, what kind and how did it preform? my carb is slowly going and i wanted to know if it would be worth it to replace it with oem or go for aftermarket, without emissions in mind... i can get my cars passed no matter what.

second question, how would i make the rear end raise up without raising the front? i just want about an inch more clearance in the back, for looks.

does anybody know where to get (what i think are called) baby moon steel hubcaps? i think theyd go nice on an 85 caprice.

oh and headers... anybody have any experience with these on their caprices?

Do you have the 305? and with the hubcaps i think the cop cars had those so i would check junkyards and ebay.

1. There is no aftermarket (electronic/computer) carb available, so OEM/rebuilt is the only game in town.

2. Air shocks or air-lift bags will get you where you want to be. Swapping to a heavy duty spring "might" give you some extra lift, but the air shocks are the least painful way to raise it.

3. Baby moons are in the JC Whitney catalog. Those and trim rings would look cool also.

Yes, it is. LG4, 4bbl carb, same engine. I think the question about the carb can be answered in one of two ways -

Yes, you can go with a Carter AFB/Edelbrock Performer (same carb) AS LONG AS you put a distributor with a vacuum advance in place of the computerized one, and ditch the computer completely. You will have to fashion a different way to run the transmission TCC if you do this.

If you want to keep the computer (I personally would, it seems more consistent and trouble-free), then No, there is not an aftermarket carb with the necessary MC solenoid or TPS hookups.

sounds way too complicated.. ill stick with the crappy quadrojet. it just sucks because i work at an auto parts store and cost of a tomco rebuild is around 300$ with a 100$ core

It's an ok carb, and $300 is about right for a rebuilt one. There are some specialty shops that do custom rebuilds (Brad Urban's Carbuerator Shop)

I thought the stock one was pretty decent for what it was. Try freeing up airflow first, and that carb won't look so bad, at least, not for mileage.
