UT Limited from Hong Kong: Heard of them?

I was at a model car swap meet in Binghamton NY today, and I saw a guy selling a stack of these models from a company called UT Limited. There were a couple Porsche GT1 Evos and an Opel Calibra V6 DTM, which is the one I got. They were only $5 each (But a lot of his stuff was real cheap so I think he was just blowing them out before summer and the shows die down).
I haven't opened up the bags, but the quality looks decent. I have never heard of this company, anybody know anything about them? I couldn't find anything about them on Google.

Steve,
This is the first time I heard they have plastic kits. I thought they are merely diecast manufacture !

Hey
I purchased the UT Porsche 911 GT-1 online for a super-cheep price. I opened it up, half expecting a poor quality kit, but I was pleasantly please to kinda a superd kit, it have full engine detail plus opening frony hood, which was absent in the Tamiya kit. Iv'e searched the internet, but it seems UT only produced two plastic kits (911 GT-1 and the Opel). I think i read somewere that they wen't out of business soon after making the plastic kits.
Its a shame, we could use another plastic kit make that makes race cars. The thing I don't get is there good quility, why are they so dirt cheep?

Holy Coincidence Batman! I had just picked up that kit this very afternoon and fiddled with it for a while. LOL
I now wish I had bought the 911 as well. The kits were only $5, and the guy had a ton of Tamiya and Fujimi kits for $5-10 each, mostly the former. I went to the show with $100, spent about $95 and came home with 13 or 14 models.
I thought about it, and I came up with a few scenerios for the price:
- Given the country of origin, and the unknown name, the kits cost half-nothing to buy wholesale (Which only applies to to the UT kits in this case).
- This guy in particular must have just wanted to get rid of all the kits for some reason. I know the number of guys buying wholesale and selling at the shows and flea markets is huge now thanks to the internet, probably in part for their own use, and want/have to get rid of the kits at any price. He might also be a hobby shop owner, and I have heard many of them are really struggling these days (Like with the armor guys, if you have the hot new kit in stock even a week late, the guys have already got it someplace else and they just sit on the shelves).
If you ever go to one of those shows, most of the guys don't want to pack the stuff up and bring it home, so if you wait until just before they pack up, you can sometimes get some really good deals, especially if you offer them a good amount for a bunch of models. Late one show I had $75 in my pocket and was going to offer it to a guy for a box of 8 or 10 Tamiya kits he clearly wanted to get rid of; They were packed first in the truck so I just said don't go through the hassle, but his buddy said he probably would have taken it.

They are great. I did the Calibra. It's about Tamiya Quality. Fitting is good, details is great. Worth it.

IMO, the detail of the Calibra is much better than the one from Tamiya, at least in the Race Seat and the roll cage anyway. The only problem with the kit seems to be the hood, which is a bit short. I bought it on ebay few years ago for a bargain ($50 for entire box of 24 kits). Great for my parts bin. :grinyes:
