ok i don't know shit about 5g's and much about any of the d series family.... ok my friend has a 92 civ dx.... and he wants me to drop a motor in, i suggested that he got the single cam vtec motor (d16y8?? i don't know if that's the correct code or not).... i know that shit will drop right in but what has to be done wiring wise to make it work, i know the ecu has to be changed does the harness have to be revamped too??? and is the tranny in the 5g dx any diff than in the ex's.....

nothing has to be done....just change it right over....the 1992 civics all came with vtec wired into the sub harness....all you need is the motor, tranny, ecu, and EX wiring harness.....it's just plug and play.
the EX tranny has shorter gearing than the DX also
the EX tranny has shorter gearing than the DX also

Why would you SUGGEST a single cam? And also, doesn't the 6th gen ex engine have different motor mounts than the 5th gen? Unless you mean the 5th gen ex, which is d16z6

they did, just the driver's side. You can use the EX driver's side bracket and the original DX rubber mount.....it's that easy:D
as for teh single cam....we might go with a single cam turbo motor for our project car....we're debating between this and an LS motor...might end up with a single cam though, since we have so many DX motors laying around
