Well, when you launch, you wanna take it probably to about 4 grand and then it should grab finally at about redline and then you shift. If you want a good time, you should shift RIGHT at redline through EVERY gear. You should be running in the low 16's or so. Good luck on your next time.;)

Happy Birthday!

What was your reaction time? Are you running the stock POS tires? Reducing the former (with practice) and changing the latter are two easy ways to drop your time a bit.

Okay, to a previous comment. Shifting at redline is not always the best way to do a 1/4 mile. I am not at all familar with the dyno-charts for a GSR, but I know with most cars, tehre is a certain high RPM that the power/torque curves drop off. It's best to shift at that RPM. Secondly, to the first post... you launched at 3 and shifted at 5?? the GS-R's VTEC goes into High Lift/High Duration mode at 6,000 RPM. So you completely missed it. Next time, try shifting at around 7,500 RPM or so. try to get it dyno'ed and check the power curve. Shift right when the power is the highest

its an LS.

RacerX, it just takes experience to be able to launch and shift fast. you're still a rookie at the MT, you'll improve over time. just keep practicing and try not to grind the gears.

Well actually shifting at redline is the best in our cars because if you don't then you can drop out of vtec and that really loses time, even in one with no vtec you will be too low in rpms in the next gear for good pull in the next gear, its absolutely critical to shift at redline to get the best times, and shift fast also of course. And 97teg i think is talkin about a GS-R but the same rules applies and shifting at 5 will drop you waaaay to low in the rpms. Hope this helped.

shifting before redline will make you go slower. if you shift right when you hit the peak power of the engine, you will move yourself too far out of the powerband. the fact that an engine has a power curve is to be taken advantage of. if you shift at redline you move yourself to the beginning of the powerband, then keep going all the way through to redline, where you move yourself back to the beginning of the powerband with the next shift. racerx, your car should be running 16.5, and you will get there with some practice. you have not been driving stick nearly long enough to be able to extract all of the power out of any car. give yourself some time and you will be able to hit mid 16's soon enough. good luck next time.

If you shift right after your power curve drops off when you hit the next gear your well below the power band. Take it to the red line that way when you shift your putting the gear right where all your power lies. i have a 90 ls and i launch at almost 5000 its a big diffrence in years. Since youve only been driving stick for a few weeks give it some time. Once you have prefected shifting smoothly ie your car doesnt jerk after you shift then start practicing getting through first and second those are the hardest and most important gears to nail.
When you drive around town accelerate to 45 or what ever the speed limit is as fast as you can you may look like an ass but itll help alot later on in your car you should be chirping 2nd every time and 3rd pretty often once you get there your quarter times should be in the mid 16s
