Is my engine/car supposed to rattle this much?
We used hasport mounts, I was told that because they are strong that the engine will make the car rattle/vibrate. I wasn't expecting this much rattle...
Is there anything I can do to minimize this?

Its normal from what i've been told. The bushings is the one its making ur car rattle hard. Supposedly its design to bring out more torque.

-Hey- I did A B16a swap on my '89 Si Hatch w/ The billet aluminum Hasport mounts. It rattled like Crazy! it sounded like I was driving from inside the block. I was asking myself "Why did I spend $450+ on these mounts if it was going to be this loud? I thought this was exactly what I was trying to avoid?"....Then I discovered the reason for the rattling...
The engine is so big, that the valve cover was (though just barely) touching the shallow USDM hood.
Take a mallet and tap out the framing in the underside of the hood where the cam gear side of the block would touch the hood, but just a little... If you tap too hard it will show through the top of the hood on the outside (Thanks Dad) !
The way I figured this out was by the red marks the new Red JDM type r valve cover I put on was leaving on the hood, and the whit paint on the engine...
And I thought the Valve cover was purely cosmetic!
I kinda miss the rattling though :)

Yeah, the engine is a tight fit with the USDM hood. I've have to take a look at what you said. The CAI definitely rubs.
I have noticed a significant reduction in rattle. It rattles more in the morning, but on the way home its a dream to drive, maybe because the engine's heated up? Also, after almost 2 weeks, I'm much more familar with my new engine.
Also, I was using 87 octane. I've since run two tanks on 91 and it does seem to help.
The only real problem I have now is that the dash rattles at lower RPMs. I'm thinking of putting some dynamat between the firewall and the dash to reduce this, as well as some of the rattles elsewhere.
For now, turn up the stereo, hit the VTEC, and I'm happy.

it will rattle a lil more when its cold...its probably your vents and ashtray...have you had the interior apart painting stuff for that ricey look??...try gluing your vents in...you can buy two different durometers of bushing (durometer is the stiffness)...you probably got the street ones, thats what i got and they vibrate....if you got the race ones there would be a lot more vibration...ALOT!!....

My interior is stock.
I'm not sure what level of stiffness the shop used. Does anyone know how I can check this?

im having a simular problem but i got place racing mounts n at idel my car sounds normal but once i hit the gas a lil bit the whole car rattles it kinda had something 2 do with the hood my dad pointed that out it wasnt hittin on the motor it was just made bad not enuff glue between the skeleton n the hood itself.so it would be loose n hit 2gether. addin more glue kinda slowed that rattling down but im still gettin a loud noise in the back by the trunk n in the front the whole engine bay.. its so bad that when i take off my foot either hits the gas 2 much r its hard 2 take off i have 2 ride the clutch n take off between 1500-2000.. it starts from 1500 n up ne thing i can do?? its not even a lil shake its a rattling like ur havin a Seizure

heh, ya.. Thats the fun of owning a B16 hatch. I have very solid mounts, they're hard as hell.
Everything rattles.. My rear veiw, my roof, my spoiler, almost every screw on the car has rattled itself loose. I've even lost my idle control screw as a result of it. It rattles my brains.
But I love the way it makes the motor feel so alive.

I got it too. B16a, hasport mounts, 1990 honda civic. Everything rattles. I had to buy myself a complete kenwood system to drown out the noise.
