One of my current builds is the GIO Nissan Skyline GTR which ran in the Australian Touring Car Championship. I have used the Fujimi racing version so I can compare it to the Tamiya versions as I have another 3 Aussie cars to build.

I have completed the body with the only problem being the body kit pieces that fit in front of the rear wheel arches. These needed quite a lot of cutting, filing and filling to blend them into the body as per the original car. Decals I have had for about 10 years waiting to be used and went on without any problems. I quite like this scheme as it is not only very bright, it is also very simple.

Wow, i have to be honest here and say that i never knew Skylines ran in the Aussie Touring Champ, not that us Americans ever get to see good racing like this. Looks good! im going to have to research this stuff as my dream is to move to Australia ( great Motorsports, Tennis, and Architecture, what else do you need?). Keep it up!

Any Aussies here watching the Australian Open? Thats why ive been up till 5 in the morning every day for the past 2 weeks....

Thanks guys

Chad, you missed out on great beaches with the added attraction of bikinied women.:grinyes: Like you I have been going square-eyed watching the tennis til about 2am. We also have the International cricket on another station.

The official Aussie Nissan team had a lot of input into the design of the GTR with Nissan Japan as this car was designed from the outset as a race car with the road car only built to comply with the FIA minimum build numbers. We only had 3 here in Australia racing and they completely dominated 2 of the 2 1/2 years they raced. Our regs were then totally rewritten and the Nissans banned. The new formula is what is now V8 Supercars.

The green stripe is actually fluro yellow/green.

Here is a photo I have cropped from one courtesy of Australian Motoring Annual no:22/Bill Forsyth showing the car I am building and behind it one of the official factory cars. This was their last year.

The GIO model car looks great.

A quick update with the interior well on it's way. Need to do the seat and belts. Also the plumbing for the fire bomb. Dash is only temporarily in place for the photo.

Will match the Peter Jackson Sierra I have on my shelf. Was looking at the 1/12th kit to do the Richards one. Might have to wait a bit though got enough on my plate

Thanks for the comments.

Here is the completed car. Sorry about the photos. Raining outside so will have to wait to get some natural light shots including interior.

Comparing the car to the Tamiya, I think I prefer the Tamiya version. The rear wheels on the Fujimi actually poke outside of the body and do not allow any modification to fix. I have actually pushed the rear wheel arch area of the body out a bit, however still not right. Front suspension has the wheels too upright. Any front on photo of a race version shows quite noticeable camber. You can just see that I have replicated this on the model. The brakes also leave a lot to be desired.

Hi Mal,

The Skyline looks great. Good Job.

I think you have convinced me to use Tamiya kits over Fujimi's with the wheel and stance problems. I have decals for the Winfield, GIO and early factory scheme (red / white & blue) on my to do list.

What Red did you use on the GIO car ?

Thanks
Craig

Thanks guys.
Craig, I'm like you and have the others to build as well. The red is Tamiya TS8 Italian Red. Looking at my references I think Tamiya TS49 Bright Red may have been better. Both the GIO and Winfield reds look to be the same in photos I have. I will build the Winfield one with bright red just to see. Anyway too many red schemes to be all the same. ie Winfield Nissan and Commodore, Shell Sierra, Bond Sierra, Winfield Mitsubishi rally cars etc.

Phil, I decided that if I tried to put too much detail into the builds, I would never build what I have stacked in a cupboard (over 100). Sound like a model tragic:shakehead . Or as we have in the common terms thread a compulsive buyer. Do you still have the email address I sent you for Northcoast Hobbies. Can't find it and want to get some 5 spoke wheels off Jeff for the other Nissan builds and 2 Commodore builds.

Fair call about building all the kits in one's stash, I don't think I am ever going to finish mine. :(
Do Northcoast Hobbies have an email address? :dunno: I just rung them up on the phone, the number I have is 02 6568 5956.
