Has anyone ever installed a ROBERK wiper delay?

I am posting this due to the similarity of the Geo Tracker and the
Geo Metro's windshield wiper motor...

My wife's '93 Geo Tracker came with no Windshield Wiper Delay.

Consequently, I purchased a ROBERK "Wiper Delay Control" (P25) for it
from Schucks for $22.

ROBERK's instructions are written for idiots. Diagrams for AMC, Chrysler, Ford,
Lincoln, Mercury, GM, on and on....15 diagrams with "to wiper switch" in
many of them.

If they had given something to tell me what the six wires coming out the back
of the device do, maybe I could finger this out....! Black is ground for sure...

Click on the thumbnail for a full size copy of Roberk's "Instructional"
diagram....then click on the enlarged version for a LARGER picture!

I have the Chilton Manual for the Tracker, (66500) and looked at the car's
wires on page 6-54.
The Chilton Manual for the Geo Metro (28700) shows an almost identical
wiring diagram as the Tracker - same wire colors also! (page 6-57 top left).

The Tracker wiper motor has

Yellow/blue strp - +12v
Blue/Red strp---- Fast +12v ????
Blue/White strp -- Intermeitant ???
Blue ------------- Slow +12v ????

Has anyone installed this device on their Metro or Tracker?

If so, please give me a hint on what wires do what, etc.

i had that thing on my 95 i hated the blasted clicking noise it made. so now it resides in the local land fill.
good luck with yours

"You look like you nailed it down to me. Your text circumscibed the subject
perfectly, however I wonder how you have been able to forfend to constant
occlusion that has created a hyperborean environment you speak of so
bitterly? Heaters? Sunshine? Moved out from under the unbrage?"

DO YOU MEAN THIS ENVIRONMENT.....? YESTERDAY....

WET SNOW TURNING INTO SLUSH WITH A 15 MPH WIND...?

"Moving forward...

"Ylw/Blu- 12V source
Blu/Wht- Source to park switch (This is where you send a 12V pulse to
activate one wiper cycle.)
Blu- Low speed windings 12v
Blu/Red- High Speed windings 12v

I hope this clarifies things.

Good Luck,
Blake

NEXT, I NEED TO FINGER OUT WHICH OF THE WIRES COMING OUT OF THE
ROBERK UNIT SEND A TIMED PULSE....

THANKS EVER SO MUCH FOR THAT INFO. NOW I CAN MAKE MY WIFE
HAPPY. YOU KNOW HOW THAT GOES..... HAPPY WIFE, HAPPY HUSBAND....
HER CAR IS EASY TO GET AT AND A FEW WIRES CONNECTED WILL GET
IT DONE - THEN BACK INTO THE HOUSE....

AS TO WORKING ON THE METRO - I WENT TO "PULL-n-SAVE", SLOSHED
THRU THE MUD, AND GOT THE LOWER HALF OF THE THROTTLE BODY I HAD
LEFT THERE A WEEK AGO.

I WILL PHOTOGRAPH IT AS I NEED TO ASK QUESTIONS ABOUT IT.

IT SEEMS ENIGMATIC....

PS - NEWBIE - CLICKING IS BETTER THAN A WIPER GOING CONSTANTLY
AND SQUEAKING BECAUSE THE WINDOW IS TOO DRY - YET WET ENOUGH
TO BOTHER ONE....

OK, Blake - another question and then I'll be ready to hook this ROBERK
thingie up....

I hooked ROBERK up to one of the two car batteries I have on my workbench.

(I don't return a car battery when I buy a new one if the old one will still hold
12v. One or two kept charged up are useful. To start a dead car or as a
good 12 volt power supply)

Red to +12v Post, Black to Neg Post. Started clicking as Newbie said - not
too bad....a noisy car would drown out the clicks!

The brown wire gave momentary +12v. This goes to the Blue - wht strp wire
for momentary power to start one cycle.

The ROBERK Blue/Green was a n/o - normally open circuit - closed
momentarily. The ROBERK Blue/Red was a momentary ground.

I have no idea what the Yellow wire does!

My question is - I am wondering how this thing will react to the normal
wiper switch being turned on while the ROBERK is on.

Will the momentary +12v to the Blue/Wht strp cause any problem if the
regular wiper switch is turned on?
Will any of this damage the ECM...?

I want it to be "Fool Proof" so that no combination will zap the car's electrical
system.

I know it is made for that, but don't know what to do.....

I'd like it to do as follows:

You have to turn on the car's wiper switch, then if you turn the ROBERK dial,
it takes over and becomes intermittant. If ROBERK is off, then the
wiper should run continuously until the car's wiper switch is turned off.

I have tried every combination of continuity and voltage on this ROBERK
unit. Here is what I've found:

Wire colors Red, Black, Brown, Yellow, Blue, Green --- Six wires.

Red - +12v
Black(grd) -12v ........ unit clicks when turned on.

Combinations where voltage or continuity exists:

Brown - Black(grd).......N/C momentary 12v pulse i.e. Brown goes +12v

Blue - Green.......N/C momentary open continuity no voltage

Blue - Red........ N/O momentary continuity Blue grounds to red (+12v)

Yellow - Brown..... N/C continuity momentary open circuit no voltage

There is no circuit from any wire to either +12v or ground in other
combinations with switch of or on.

Oddest damned thing........

There doesn't appear to be a combination as you describe it should have.
The main switch neither opens nor closes any circuit.

PS - how does one enable "spaces" in this text. Multiple spaces are ignored!

OK.

I believe I have this right.....

Cut the Blue wire on the Geo Tracker to the Wiper Motor.
That is the slow speed wire.

Connect the ROBERK Brown wire to the Wiper Motor side of that wire.
The Brown wire goes momentary +12v and starts the wiper moving.
Then the Brown wire goes null and the wiper cuts off when it returns to park.

Then connect the Yellow wire to the vehicle side of the cut Blue Wiper wire.
That makes a "Normally Closed Circuit" for when the ROBERK is off
allowing the regular switch to work.

Then connect the Red wire to any +12v for power.

Connect the Black wire to the frame for ground.

Is that right....?

Sounds like a plan.

Actually, this looks like the "wiring diagram", if you could call it that,
for the GM Cars 1984 to 1986 on the far right of the ROBERK diagram
second up from the bottom - the diagram in my thumbnail photo....

Would have been nice if they had included what the wires actually do.
Not everyone is an idiot!
