pulley question

i have a 98 escort and the auto tensioner is broken where the socket wrench is supposed to go my question is can you put the belt on with out moving the tensioner or is there another way to move the tensioner

is this a 1.9 li engine type? how exactly is the tension pulley broke, is the 1/2" driver opening stripped or 1/2" ratchet broke off in the tension pulley. explain.

if its a 98 its most likely a 2.0 SPI

hey it is an spi and the 1/2 in. socket is broke off but good news i used some really big grips and got the belt on and now it runs great thanks any way
