UGH!! I hate this shit.

I call up a local muffler shop today... my saturn has a rusted out exhaust, all the gaskets are shot, probably a few leaks elsewhere. I want something a little less restrictive, stainless steal, and most important, not my current exhaust. So anyways, I call them up...

me - "hey, I got a '94 saturn I want a manifold-back exhaust for, how much?"

guy - "Why do you need that?"

me - (explains what I posted above)

guy - "I don't think you need that. I've never had to replace that much on a saturn, so you don't need it."

me - "well I still want it, how much?"

guy - "you don't need that"

me - "bye."

Same thing happened when I wanted tires for my VR-4. I specifially wanted the Michelin Pilot XGTs. My car needs GOOD tires and that's what I wanted. I had to call about 6 shops before getting help. Everyone thought they were overkill tried to sell me their $50 generic brands. Finally called Sear's and they were happy as hell to make the easy sale.

It's not like any of these people are trying to rip me off... I know what I want, I have the money for what I want, I just want to buy it. What the hell is their problem?

Shops are evil  You have to go in knowing what you want and knowing what you are talking about otherwise they take you for a ride. I am surprised that you were looking for more expensive stuff and they were trying to sell you cheaper stuff....it's usually the other way around.

It just boils down to finding a place you can trust (good luck) and knowing a little bit about the product/service you are getting.

I go thru this EVERY TIME!!! How do these shops stay in business? I just went to Darkside Motoring and tried to spend $3,000. They didn't want my money.
