91 Tercel Thermostat

I've been saying I was going to do this thermostat for a while now but I'm finally getting to it. So many interuptions (rain, work, and skool) So before I go under there this weekend (no interruptions, off from work and its supposed to be clear blue skies) I need some help. What do I have to do to get to the thermostat. The Haynes manual says I need to drain the radiator but everyone else says I don't.
Not only that the Haynes manual doesn't give a location for the thermostat.
I have a feeling where it is because I've done one but it wasn't a Tercel.
So it anyone can help me with this it'll be really appreciated.

Might as well drian the rad. a little, some will come out as soon as you break the seal on the thermostat housing. It is under the dist. You will have to remove a few wires to get to it easily but it is easy to replace it. Make sure you get a new rubber gasket when you buy a thermostat. I think there are 2 10 mm bolts to remove along with the coolant line. 15 minute job at the worst.

I bought a thermostat but it came with a gasket attached to it.
Would I need another gasket for somewhere else that I don't know about yet?
15min at the worst works for me.
I know how to take things apart and put them back together easily. So HOPEFULLY it wont take that long.

You just need that one rubber gasket that slips around that one end. It might be easier if you remove the dist. cap so you can get to those wire connectors easier.

No thinking about it, you got it dead on bud :) I just did the girlfriends 90, didn't pull the dist or unhook the cooling lines.

Makes a mess no matter what you do, but do drain the rad.

I don't know if you finished your job, but I did mine yesterday. To pull out thermostat, l drained the rad, take off one hose(the big one from the buttom of the rad), uncliped one connector behind, and I confirm that it is 2 10mm bolts on the cap. The thermostat is behind this cap, under the distributor. Have a good work !

O yea I did finish it and everything you said was just how it is. My old thermostat was ruined, I wish I could put a pic up of it but I threw it away. The only difference is that I took off the distributor so I could get to it easier.
