Spark Plug replacement

When should the plugs be replaced in a 2000 ? I have 94000 km and it still runs great.Any comments?

I would have replaced the plugs and plug wires at 65 to 70 K if it were my car. Just because it feels like it is running good, may not always be the case as far as gas milage etc.

94,000 km is 58,408 miles. The plugs (and I believe wires as well) are advertised to last 100,000 miles (160,934 km) if they are the same as used in the US. You probably have a few more miles left in them.

Sorry shorod. This time I have to agree with Rob Roy. We have yet to have the platimum plugs or wires last much over 60,000 miles. This is on all the Fords we have in the fleet. The 100,000 mile plug does not take into account all the idling time the vehicle does. So it is a fairly inexpensive preventive maintenance to go ahead and replace them in the near future.

I guess that falls under the same category as the recommended oil change interval. What do they say, something like 5,000 miles under "normal" conditions, but even our daily commutes here in Iowa fall under the "severe" conditions.

good choice. when ever i do a tune up i make sure to check the gap on the old plugs. i have yet to see a platinum plug's gap still fall within specs, even those plugs that the owner decided to change as early as 60,000 miles,i'd usually see the gap at least .002 or more over limit.

You can get away with the recommended change interval , but I guarantee you will notice a difference if you change them at 58K

Same thing shorod. Those specs are under "ideal" conditions that the manufacturers test the vehicles under.

I have Denso Iridiums in my '98 Taurus SHO and in my '93 Dodge Stealth twin turbo. I put them in the Stealth first (it had platinums) and it made a huge difference (especially under boost), so I tried them in my SHO as well. Put them in the SHO at 84,000 miles and didn't notice a difference. It may start a bit easier, but nothing significant.
