The manual stated FLAT BLACK

Hi,
I hope I can help you out cause I built this kit as my first model. The color you use on the car should be black for the most part. For the mud guard and the other parts that are made of plastic in real life, you use semi gloss black or flat black based on your personal preference. The best way to find out is to check out some real pictures of the car.
As for Mahagony and Red Madder, you can check out the color chart for Gunze Sangyo paints:
http://www.ipmsstockholm.org/colorcharts/stuff_eng_colorcharts_mrcolor_map.htm
Mahagony is 42 and Red Madder is 68
I hope this helps.

Yeah cham, fujimi's 'instructions' are better used as toilet-paper, a far cry from Tamiya's detailed procedures.
The hachi's bumpers front & back are matt black but the black on the body panels are gloss black. Search the forums, the AE86 two-tone has been done to death, i rem there're quite a coupla posts with pics too. Or juz use google pic search & cross-reference pics of the real car lah. :)

depends on how old the car is :) if you got a panda thats been sitting in the sun for 15 years its going to look like every other japanese crudmobile, weathered and flat. they came "kinda" shiny from the factory.

Dude if u gonna build the Initial D version pay attention to the zenki/kouki lights, ie. Takumi's hachi is the really old 1st release AE86 (1983) it's front signal lamps are recessed in the front bumper whilst the later re-release(1985) has signal lamps that extend to the side of the front bumper:
Not this one, even tho' it's Tsutiya's & used at a Japanese movie release:

This one, note the signal lamps don't follow the bumper's 45degree curve.

For clearer pics click the hyper link under my sig or go to Drift.Com.MY, there're a coupla malaysian Hachis back home in local events there.

Not really bro, juz that i got too many buddies who're bonkers over the Hachi. It's an okay car, seriously underpowered by today's standards, good training car for drifts. Personally i love rotaries more. :grinyes:
Also if u r using the Fujimi kit:
-the rear mud flaps r only moulded halfway, you'll have to use putty to complete it
(there're 'Trueno/Levin' fonts on the mud-flaps of the 1:1 car)
-the dashboard doesn't touch the front windscreen properly
-be careful with the stock exhaust pipe, it's brittle & breaks easily in the center
-the front & rear bumpers have moulding recesses(cover up w putty too)
-there's also a colored line(red/silver/black)juz above the rear tail-lamps(Takumi's is black)
Learned all this while building some kits & we compared it to the 1:1 cars we were trying to replicate.
