My friend has a 97 Sierra 1500 with a 5.7 Vortec. Hes thinking about getting a supercharger for it. What does he gotta do to his truck to make this work. What other stuff can he do to it to make it more powerful? How much would a supercharger cost?

Thanks

It's generally recommended to have forged internals when running boost. Unless very moderate levels of boost are being used, forged internals is a good idea to decrease the likelyhood of melting a piston.

Here in Canada, the supercharger is about $6500. Though the United States always has better deals on that sort of thing. So if you live in Canada, make a run across the border. If not, well then you are in the right place already.

As far as other mods go...that's a pretty broad and well covered topic but here are a few:

Cold air intake
Headers
Hi flow exhaust system
Head work (porting, polishing, larger valves, valve job)
More aggressive cam shaft
Nitrous Oxide
Swap the mechanical fan for electrical fan(this saves fuel as well)
ECM/PCM reprogramming

There are tons more mods, but I have work to do. That's a good start I think though. :grinyes:
