carb issues

hey everyone, i got a 64 belair i just put a worked 350 in, but when im drivin, or even in neutral and i go above bout 2500 rpms theres a loud popping sound coming from the carb. it sounds like popcorn is poppin. i got a brand new edelbrock 500 on there, so i dont know what up. if anyone has any ideas bout what it could be, id appreciate hearin them-thanks

It sounds like an intake manifold backfire. This happens when an intake valve opens too early or is leaking and hot combustion chamber ignites the fuel/air mixture in the intake manifold.

IMO the cam timing is off, or an intake manifold rocker arm is adjusted too tight.
An exhaust valve may not be opening, either because a rocker arm is loose/broken, pushrod bent/falled off or an exhaust cam lobe is severely worn.

If the engine is well-used, an intake valve may be burned/leaking.
