Shifter sticks in park

I gotta 99 GTP and when i first get in my car it is very hard to squeeze the button to put it in drive....it is only when it is in park...but soon as the button releases its fine...?

Try taking the handle off and cleaning the mechanism. Someone may have spilled something sticky in the console and it's all mucked up.

How do i do that?

There is a retainer clip toward the dash (it looks like a very big staple), that holds the handle on the end of the shifter. Pop it out with a small screwdriver and the handle should slide straight up and off. You might have to give it a little twisting motion to get it free.

alright well how do i get the boot off??
