Does anybody know where to get a turbo kit for an 89 Maxima SE?

as far as i know there are no aftermarket kits available. however it does have a Vg motor which is the motor in a 300zx so it might not be too hard to custom fab something up.

Yea, thats what I figured. I'll have to look into it some more.

If I could find a turbo kit for an N/A 300ZX, would it fit do you think?

i think the VG30 in a 300z sits differently than one in a maxima. i think you'd have to custom fab some things like the header and downpipe.

i remember reading about this from someone on the org. i beleive they took one from an 88 300z andc cutomed the pipes, did some other fabrication and modding and got it to work.

you may want to check that out.

Rule of thumb:

You raise the power of your engine above factory spec......and you stand the chance of a failure of some other part of the engine/transmission of power to the wheels system.

I also own a 05 Dodge Cummins diesel, and on the diesel forums a lot of guys want to "bomb" turbo diesels......"bomb" means raise the turbo boost, and get more h.p. and torque. Right now my Cummins is doing 325 H.P. and 610 ft/lbs. of torque in stock form. These folks who "bomb" their turbo diesels(Ford Powerstrokes, GM. Duramaxes, and D.C. Cummins) often have monumental driveline calamities occur because of the drastic change in torque and h.p.. Automatic trannies fail, and other drive-line components.
.........
Now your Nissan Maxima is built to handle it's stock H.P. and torque, and I'm doubtful that Nissan built its driveline to handle a large increase in those power values. Unless, you plan to beef up your tranny, and other components along with your turbo installation, you might find yourself stranded, and in need of some $$$ repairs.
..............
If your easy on the "loud" pedal, you might get your car to hold up in stock form.........but no manufacturer invests in beefier parts for their driveline than necessary, as the dollar is the most important factor to them all.
...........
Just my two cents.

^you'd actually be surprised. there have been a few people who pushed lots of power and ran 12's and 11's on stock internals and transmission. a guy by the name of Jime was(and probably still is) running 100 and 150 shots on a stock 3.5 tranny, another guy by the name of Hal was pushing over 500 hp on stock internals and tranny in his turbo 4th gen, and the fastest maxima is mardigrasmax's and he's running stock internals and tranny as well with his turbo 4th gen w/ nitrous. http://redlinemax.com/catalog/fastest.php
